N.C. Cooperative Extension Featured at Tryon International Equestrian Center
N.C. Cooperative Extension and Clemson University will be featured at Tryon International Equestrian Center on May 11, 2019 for agricultural awareness night. Saturday Night Lights is a Grand Prix equestrian event featuring food, fun, live music, and the highest level of competitive show jumping at Tryon International Equestrian Center on select Saturday evenings throughout the year. Bring the whole family: admission, parking and carousel rides are all free! The activities start at 6:00pm with the competition to follow at 8:00pm.

Landscape Contractors often are looking for an assortment of opportunities to access the various credits that the need to keep their NC Landscape Contractor License or Pesticide License. SHIIP Volunteers Needed
We are looking for volunteers for the SHIIP program. SHIIP stands for the Seniors' Health Insurance Information Program. Volunteers/counselors receive training on the Medicare Program and assist seniors in navigating the Medicare program - what drug program is the best for the medications you are taking, if you qualify for Extra Help, etc... Extension Master Food Volunteer Program
Extension Master Food Volunteer Program is much like the well known Extension Master Gardener Program, but focuses on foods related topics. This program is being offered in Transylvania County and applications are still being taken. Participants will participate in 30 hours of training, 30 hours of shadowing and 20 hours of volunteer work. Food Preservation Workshops
With the appearance of fresh strawberries at the farmer's market and road side stands, it is never too early to begin thinking about food preservation. A series of classes have been scheduled through the summer at our office. The first of these workshops will be held on June 26, from 1 until 4 pm. During this hands on workshop we will talk about canning Fruits and Fruit Juices and learn how to preserve them using the hot water bath. The second workshop will be July 10, 1 - 4 pm, and we will make some soft spreads (jam, jelly, etc.) and pickles. July 17th is the 3rd workshop and we will use the pressure canner to can vegetables. The last one is August 14, 1 - 4pm we will learn how to preserve meat by using the pressure canner. Pre-registration and a fee of $15 is required for each of these classes, and space is limited, so call Maryann at 828/884-3109 to have your spot saved for these workshops.
