COVID-19 Update, April 8, 2020

Please continue to watch for frequent updates on our website, Facebook and Twitter accounts to keep you informed of what is happening in Lambton Shores during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Message from the Mayor

Hello everyone,

For many of us, this Easter weekend will be very different from those in the past. You may even be tempted by the holiday to visit friends and family but we cannot stray off our path of flattening the curve. For progress to continue it’s very simple - don’t have visitors - don’t be a visitor! Please stay at home.

Every non-essential trip at this time puts others at risk, not just on Easter, but every day. There will be plenty of time to celebrate with others when all of this is over – in the meantime let’s continue to do what is necessary and abide by physical distancing.

I recognize that everyone has had to absorb a lot of new information and adopt new rules on a week by week basis. Our staff has been updating our COVID-19 Information Hub as new information has become available. We must remain vigilant and compliant with these new orders because they are working!

I know that with every new announcement our lives become a little less normal and in some ways more inconvenient. But I want to remind you of all the good things. First off, this will eventually end. Secondly, we have a strong food supply chain and grocers keeping us fed, our hydro is on, and the weather is turning so we can enjoy time in our yards. I expect that this summer we may see some of the best Lambton Shores gardens yet!

To those working in their yards, please use brown paper leaf bags. This is by far the most neighbourly way to clean up and it is more environmentally friendly than burning! To help everyone out, our staff is making arrangements to begin the curbside leaf pick-up program toward the end of April rather than waiting until May.

Please stay safe, healthy and positive. And happy Easter!

Marinas
Under Provincial Emergency Order, all recreational marinas have been deemed non-essential services. Lambton Shores’ marinas in Port Franks and Grand Bend remain closed and are tentatively scheduled to open May 16th, 2020. We will update this notice with new information as it becomes available.
Open Air Burn By-Law
Open air burning can be a fire hazard and a nuisance to your neighbours. If you choose to burn your yard waste over bagging it, you must abide by the open air burn by-law.

Only burn if you can guarantee:
  • the fire will not be a nuisance to your neighbours
  • you can supervise the fire for the duration of the burn
  • the wind speed is less than 15km/hr
  • the fire is under 1m in diameter
  • you are located where burning is permitted

Always review the open air burn by-law before starting your burn.
COVID-19 Enforcement
The Municipality of Lambton Shores and the OPP would like to remind you that the safety of all Ontarians is our top priority. We encourage all people and businesses to voluntarily comply with all Provincial Emergency Orders which are short-term restrictions. Education, awareness and compliance are preferred options. OPP or in some cases Municipal Law Enforcement officers will apply discretion on whether to launch any enforcement actions such as:

  • Offences relating to non-essential businesses that remain open in contravention of the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act. (EMCPA).
  • Offences relating to gatherings of more than five people in contravention of the EMCPA.
  • Offences relating to the illegal use of closed facilities, parks or beaches
Complaints for less serious incidents can be reported online at  opp.ca/reporting or by calling the OPP non-emergency line at 1-888-310-1122.
