HOMECOMING 2019 KICKOFF!






2019 SMCC Homecoming festivities begin tomorrow with Spirit Day. Students may wear jeans and an SCCS Spirit Shirt. 

On Sunday, October 6, join us at Zierolf Field for the Panther Family Homecoming Kickoff for a day of food, fellowship, and fun! There will be bounce houses, face painting, a pumpkin patch, and free hot dogs and hamburgers from the CCAB grill.

OHgo will be on hand to collect personal hygiene and wellness products as well.

Spirit Week continues next week with the following themes:
Monday - Pajama Day (no shorts, tanks or slippers)
Tuesday - Dress like a tourist (grades K-5 must wear uniform bottoms with a tourist, destination shirt)
Wednesday - Grades 9-12 dress like your hall, K-8 dress like your favorite decade
Thursday - Spirit Day, jeans, and an SCCS Spirit Shirt

On Friday, October 11, the Homecoming Parade will leave Holy Angels parking lot at 5:30pm, traveling down Camp Street to Strobel Field where the Panthers will take on Holgate at 7:00pm. All SMCC Alumni are invited to the Alumni Tailgate from 5:00pm-7:00pm at the Sandusky Eagles Club, across from Strobel Field. Pizza will be provided and beverages are available for purchase.

FREE AND REDUCED LUNCH DEADLINE
If your child is receiving Free or Reduced Lunch, you must fill out the 2019-2020 application before October 11 or they will be taken off the program. If your child is returning this year and is still on the SNAP program, you are considered Direct Certification and do not need an application.

MARCO'S PIZZA NIGHT
SCCS has partnered again this year with Marco's Pizza, located at 625 East Perkins Avenue, for a monthly fundraising opportunity. 15% of your total order will be donated back to SCCS, 20% if you order online! Families of students in grades K-5, mention your teachers name when ordering. The elementary homeroom with the most orders at the end of the promotion will win a pizza party! This month's Marco's night is Thursday, October 10 and will go to transportation costs for the 8th grade trip to Washington, DC. Thank you for your support!

CAFETERIA HELP NEEDED
There is a position open in the cafeteria on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00am-1:30pm. Applications can be found on our website and at the main entrance. Please submit application to Mrs. Veverka. If you have any questions, please send an email to [email protected].

SCCS 8TH GRADE PUMPKIN SALE
Eighth grade students from SCCS will have pumpkins available for sale/donation after October 5 and 6 weekend Masses. The proceeds from the sale will help cover the transportation costs for their trip to Washington, DC in the spring.
 
TLC SOCKTOBER SOCK DRIVE
During the month of October, SMCC's TLC class will be collecting new socks of any kind, color or style for the less fortunate and the elderly. There will be collection boxes by the Main Entrance and in the Elementary building. TLC is also sponsoring "Chuck-a-Duck" at the home varsity football game on Saturday, October 5 at 2:00pm and at the home volleyball game on Monday, October 7 at 4:30pm. Participants can take a chance tossing a duck, and the closest duck to the target wins a Soda Pops gift basket. Ducks are $1 per toss.

EXTENDED DAY HELP NEEDED
There is an aide opening available in our Extended Day after school program. The shift begins at 2:15pm, Monday through Friday. If interested, please contact Mrs. MacMurray at [email protected].
 

GIL KROMER MEMORIAL RUN 
The TLC Class is hosting the Annual Gil Kromer Memorial 2-Mile Run/Walk on Sunday, October 27, 2019. Registration begins at 11:30am, with the race starting at 1:00pm. Proceeds from the race benefit the Gilbert David Kromer Scholarship Fund, established at SCCS.  Click here for an entry form.

SMCC Homecoming Parade is Friday, October 11! Looking for alumni, family and friends vehicles. Contact the Development Office 419.627.9422. Lineup begins at 4:30pm at Holy Angels Church, parade will travel down Camp Street to Strobel Field.
 
PRESCHOOL AND ELEMENTARY SCHOOL NEWS

FOOTBALL MINI CHEER CLINIC
On Saturday, October 5, the Panther Cheerleaders will be hosting a football season mini cheer clinic for students in preschool through grade 5. The High School cheerleaders will work with the students to learn healthy nutrition, proper stretching techniques, motions, jumps, sideline chants, group cheer, and dances. Participants will receive a team t-shirt and a special cheer gear item. All participants are invited to join our Panther Cheerleaders during the first quarter of the Varsity football game.

MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL SCHOOL NEWS 

SANDUSKY LIFE TEEN

Life Teen parent information sessions will be held from 7pm-8pm at the Holy Angels gathering room on 10/16 and 10/20. Parents may attend one of these meetings if they are interested in getting more information about the youth ministry program at the Catholic parishes (Sandusky Life Teen). 

JUNIOR HIGH AND HIGH SCHOOL PARENT SWIM MEETING
Tuesday, October 8, there will be a meeting for junior high and high school parents and swimmers in the cafeteria at  7:00pm.

COLLEGE FINANCIAL AID NIGHT
BGSU Firelands will be hosting a college financial aid night on Tuesday, October 15 at 6:00pm. The meeting will be held in BGSU's Cedar Point Center Auditorium (1 University Drive, Huron, Ohio 44839). This meeting is for any student or parent interested in learning more about the FAFSA and the college financial aid process.



KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS SCHOLARSHIP
The Knights of Columbus Ohio Charity Foundation has opened their annual $1000 high school tuition scholarship. Students must follow guidelines listed here. Applications are to be postmarked no later than November 27, 2019.

FRESHMAN FUTURE MAKERS DAY AT EHOVE
The Freshman class will be attending Future Makers Day at EHOVE on October 8 from 11:30am-12:30pm. There is also a Future Makers Showcase event for families in the evening from 5:00pm-7:00pm. FRESHMAN CLASS NEW GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS PARENT MEETING
Recently, Ohio Department of Education updated the graduation requirements for the freshmen class, Class of 2023, and beyond. Miss Howman will be hosting a parent meeting on Tuesday, October 15 in the Panther Performance Center at 6:00pm to review these changes.
