Dear Families,
In years before, I have told the following story during the Advent season:
As a child, I could remember sitting at the dinner table one day, as chaos darted all around me, as sibling after sibling would ask my Mom a question. “What time is dinner Mom?” “What are we having?” “Did you sign my report card?” “Did you wash my basketball uniform?” At first, I thought, wow, wouldn’t it be great to have everyone seeking your attention? But then, the questions never stopped – so I did what any kid would do and ran for my life to go play in the front yard. That was a long time ago but that moment is forever etched in my memory.
Several years ago when my parents were remodeling their kitchen, I purchased a sign that reads: “God grant me the patience to deal with all my blessings.” I remember laughing as I climbed the ladder to hang that sign, telling my Mom, “You sure have a lot of blessings!” She replied, “Yes, and I need a lot of patience for your Dad, the eight of you, twenty-one grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren (soon to be twenty-four by Easter).”
Patience is exactly what we need to get through the Christmas Season - particularly this one!
The year of 2020 has been - well, different. As we light the Advent wreath candles this week, we remember the scripture stories that remind us of the journey the people of God traveled, awaiting the birth of Jesus.
We are reminded of the distance we have come since this virus began. We continue to remember that when Christmas arrives, we will have been in school for “in person” learning for 79 days. This is a tribute to our parents, our students and our staff. We pray that we will continue going forward, and pray that our families have safe, wonderful and happy holidays this year.
One quick reminder: Las Posadas will take place on campus December 17 immediately following Mass. We hope this PK4 event will conclude as all of the classroom doors open wide, and we join together, if only in voice alone, for the first time since March in song. We will be taping the event, and placing it on social media and our website on that day. We hope you will enjoy it!
Yours in Service,
