Incredible! That is what describes the spring season we have experienced. It was a very wet winter, but we were rewarded for our inconvenience with a flowering display that has exceeded all expectations. My morning goal
every
day is to participate in some sort of exercise. My earlier days as a somewhat competitive runner has now turned into what I call a “twaddle” aka trot, waddle, walk, but I am out there daily, much to John’s amazement of my dedication as this takes an early rise and weather fortuitous. But this alone quiet time is sacred to me as my moment out of doors, savored due to the hours confined to being in the gallery, and my meditation time filled with convoluted thought processes …. from none to overload.
|
During this twaddle time I am inspired by the beauty that surrounds us, motivated by thought processes, and exhilarated by the ease of a run …. downhill. Which brings me to, thank-you, Waynesville neighborhood house dwellers, for creating yards of beauty that have exploded this spring for all, like me, to embrace and appreciate….and sniff.

Waynesville has recently lost two, kind souls. You most likely saw on the national news the shootings at University of North Carolina Charlotte and the courageous young man that gave his life to ultimately save the lives of many as a gunman took fire in a classroom. This amazing hero is Waynesville’s Riley Howell.
|
With Waynesville being such a small, connected community he and his family touched incredible numbers. I did not know him or his family, but I was choked with tears as mid-morning we locked the gallery doors, walked down the street, and welcomed Riley home...in a black SUV. The community outreach has been heart-wrenching. I wish that I had known Riley ~ I hear that he was amazing. My heartfelt sympathies go out to all that did.
|

Waynesville also just lost an icon, Mary Edwards, owner of Mountain Home Collections for 25 years ….. down the hill from the parking lot, art supply headquarters …. and GREAT cards. She put up quite the battle with cancer and just could not hang on. She was gentle, kind, and had a great laugh. In peace.

In December of 2005, my third son, Garrett LeGrande, was born with Medically Intractable Epilepsy, a form of epilepsy that does not respond to medication. In July 2008, he underwent lifesaving surgery to remove 60% of the right side of his brain. If not for this surgery, his seizures would have robbed him of his ability to grow and learn.
Prior to Garrett’s birth, I was a practicing physical therapist. Unable to leave Garrett due to his delicate medical condition, I began making jewelry as a way to stay home with him. Creating hand knotted jewelry gave me the opportunity to share my story of Garrett and God’s faithfulness to my family. Seeing I could make money from home inspired me.
|
If God could do what he had for Garrett and our family, could He bless others as we continued in this new adventure? I began to pray that my business might grow and that I would be able to share in this blessing and employ other moms who needed to or wished to stay at home. Employing faithful moms to help me with creating this jewelry has made my business an even bigger blessing than I could have ever imagined!
When finishing and perfecting each piece, I feel it already belongs to someone … when they find it, it will bring them joy and a smile. The people I have met and continue to meet along this journey have inspired and encouraged me to continue making these unique creations. I currently live just outside Ridgway, Colorado, with my husband, Duncan, and my three children, Sanders, Gray, and Garrett.
