Pastor Trudy's Message

Unraveled by Uncertainty
Matthew 14: 22-33   This passage keeps coming up at significant times in my life. Get out of the boat, it whispers to me. And if I don't listen, it shouts: GET OUT OF THE BOAT. The thing these have in common is it seems like an invitation is extended and it's up to me whether or not to accept. In the scripture, though, there is a storm and a stranger telling them not to be afraid. Perhaps we are missing the point if we think this passage is about our response alone. Who is in control here?

Good and gracious God, thank you for being with us in the peaceful valleys, but even more in the storms. Help us to be bold to trust you as we step into the challenges. In Jesus' name, Amen.

WONDERING...
REAL QUESTIONS FROM REAL PEOPLE TO LEARN MORE ABOUT GLC
When I posted the Phil Vischer  Holy Post Video on systemic racism   I got some strong responses, both positive and negative. I take these responses to heart as I work out my place in the conversation about racism. I believe that whenever something moves us to respond, whether we initially feel moved by negative or positive feelings, that is a Holy Spirit moment. A strong reaction says to me, 'Pay attention!' Even more, a strong reaction usually touches a truth, like my own realization about my relationship with the police in the 7/5 sermon. Truth usually takes us into uncomfortable territory, and unravels things that we didn't even know were tying us up! Good news! Unraveling is the work we are devoting ourselves to this summer. What's unraveling in you?
