When the shelter closed to the public on March 19th, we had 27 cats and 25 dogs in our care. We have continued doing adoptions by appointment only and following safe social distancing protocols. We are thrilled that 27 adoptions have taken place at our facility since that date. With the help of our rescue partners at Pawportunities in Blue Springs, Missouri and Five Acres Animal Shelter in St. Charles, Missouri, we were able to transfer out 14 dogs -- all of whom have now found their forever homes.
Our staff continues to come to work daily to take care of the animals that are still here, along with conducting everyday business. By reducing the number of animals housed in our building, we have ensured that staff members who need to remain at home because of immune-compromised family members or children being out of school are able to do so. We care deeply about the health and safety of our staff and volunteers as well as our animals and have worked hard to make sure that EVERYONE, whether they have two legs or four, is well taken care of during this difficult time.
