EDUCATION PROGRAMS

Changing the Narrative about Aging Workshop
Tuesday, June 4, 8:30 a.m.-noon
Located at the George Di Ciero City and County Building, One DesCombes Drive, Broomfield, 80020

Do you work with, advocate for or communicate about older adults, aging and ageism? Are you a policy-maker who cares about older adults and wants to advance age-friendly communities? Does part of your work involve policies and practices that involve older adults? Are you someone who simply cares about addressing ageism?
If so, this workshop, co-sponsored by Changing the Narrative in Colorado and Broomfield Wellness, Recreation and Senior Services is for you.
You'll learn:
  • Why telling a new story about aging and ageism is so important
  • What the general public believes about older people and about aging in America *
  • What ageism is, and how when ageism is directed against older people, the harmful effects it has not only on older people but also on our communities and the economy
  • The benefits to older adults of having positive views of aging
  • Evidence-based messaging and communications strategies based on three years of research by  FrameWorks Institute that have been proven to shift public opinion in a positive direction, to increase support for age-friendly policies and to decrease bias against older people.
  • How words and phrases in common use can have negative consequences that we don't intend because they reinforce ageist attitudes and prejudicial stereotypes about older people
You'll also practice using the new frames and messages, and you'll leave with some concrete tips and tactics for using the new frames and sharing them with those around you.
The workshop will be facilitated by Janine Vanderburg, a FrameWorks Institute certified master trainer.
The workshop is brought to you by  Changing the Narrative in Colorado, a partnership of NextFifty Initiative and Rose Community Foundation. Our goal is to change the way Coloradans think, talk and act about aging and ageism, to create communities and a Colorado in which people of all ages thrive.
The workshop is free, but you please register in advance so we can make sure we have ample handouts, etc.. Spots are limited, so please sign up quickly.

Easy Ride Transportation

Easy Ride is a door to door transportation service for Broomfield residents 60 years of age or older, or who have a qualifying ADA disability. To become and Easy Ride client, you will need to fill out a client information form, and return it to the Broomfield Community Center. This form is available at the front desk of the Broomfield Community Center, by phone at 303-464.5534, or on our
website.  For more information, or if you need help filling out the client information form, please call 303.464.5534.

Easy Ride does not operate in the same manner as a taxi or car service. In order to provide this much needed service to our clientele, we schedule transportation to accommodate as many people as possible. Easy Ride clients may arrive up to 30 minutes prior to your appointment time and will likely have other clients picked up along the way.
When scheduling an appointment with your provider(s), please ask for an approximate end time of your appointment. This will allow us to more efficiently schedule your return ride home.
Your patience is appreciated on return rides home. We will be there as soon as possible after we receive your call. You will be informed if it will be longer than 20 minutes.

Reminder: Access to your residence needs to be cleared of snow, ice, and other obstacles that may cause a safety issue for either you  or the driver. Should weather create the need to cancel rides, you will be called in the morning between 7 and 7:30 a.m.

Each checkup takes about 20 minutes - this is not a driving test or mechanical inspection.

Veteran's Medical Mobility program connects members of the community with senior veterans who face the challenge of obtaining reliable transportation to and from VA facilities  and
