May is National Elder Law Month

The National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA) established May as National Elder Law Month as a way to educate the community on living trusts, powers of attorney, physical and financial abuse, Medicare, Medicaid, long-term care insurance, and other important issues.

Did you know that Janna Dutton, who founded our firm as Janna Dutton and Associates in 1989, was the first elder law attorney in Illinois?  She, as well as all of our attorneys serve clients, advocate for vulnerable adults, and educate others, including attorneys, community members, and health care professionals.

Medicare Beneficiaries Need to Know the Difference Between a Wellness Visit and a Physical

Medicare covers preventative care services, including an annual wellness visit. But confusing a wellness visit with a physical could be very costly. Learn more.
Fathers Day

Instead of giving Dad a "traditional" gift, give the gift of helping him have a say in his future.

No one likes to think about not having the ability to make healthcare or financial decisions due to illness, disability or death. However, it can  and does happen.

Estate planning is not 'only' for the wealthy. It is for anyone over age 18.

Our attorneys work closely with our clients to develop a plan that addresses all planning issues, from the financial to the personal; a plan that is custom, yet flexible, and a plan that is both easy for our clients to understand and for their loved ones to administer.

May is National Aging Life Care Month

Aging Life Care (ALCA) / care management is a holistic, client-centered approach to caring for older adults or others facing ongoing health challenges. Aging Life Care Professionals members of ALCA differ from Patient Advocates, Senior Advisors, Senior Navigators, and Elder Advocates.

ALCA members must meet stringent education, experience, and certification requirements of the organization, and all members are required to adhere to a strict code of ethics.

Our Client Care Coordinator Erin Vogt, is a licensed clinical social worker, certified care manager, and member of the ACLA.

She supports both our clients and attorneys by providing comprehensive assessments, family caregiver advocacy and education, and the resource information needed for the client and family to understand and make decisions.

Premise Alert

This program supports individuals living with disabilities, as well as police and paramedics responding to calls at a specific address. This program requires 911 call centers to maintain a database of information about individuals with special needs when requested by families, caregivers, or the individuals themselves.

The program assists first responders to identifying individuals who have special needs, which enables them to have additional information in the event of an emergency.

For the Suburbs, look at the city website or call the non-emergency police department phone number in the city where you live.

Are You Missing Out On Benefits?

Older adults, people with disabilities, and their loved ones rarely know the full extent of the benefits programs available. They may not even know where to look for this information. The National Council on Aging's Benefit Check-up can help. Learn more.
