Prayers for the Weindorf and Roach Families

It is with sadness that we inform you that Erin Weindorf's middle brother, Daniel Vinton Roach, passed away Tuesday in Northwest Arkansas. He leaves behind two children. Please keep Erin, his children, and the entire Weindorf/Roach families in your prayers.

Give rest, O Christ, to your servant with your saints,
where sorrow and pain are no more,
neither sighing, but life everlasting.
Rector's Forum with Jolyon Larson

At the 9:15am Sunday School hour on Sunday, June 2nd Jolyon Larson will be present to introduce his adult formation curriculum "Caring for Creation: A What, Why, and How." Jolyon Larson is a native of Conway, AR and grew up attending St. Peter's Episcopal Church. He received his B.A. in Politics from Hendrix College and his Masters in Public Affairs from Indiana University. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Natural Resources from the University of Vermont. Jolyon's curriculum is an interdisciplinary dialogue about the scientific basis for human impacts on the planet, the ethical basis for action, the role of faith, and the personal and policy choices for change. Rev. Michaelene Miller and Jolyon Larson will offer this five-week class at All Saints' on Sunday afternoons beginning on June 9th. Please attend Rector's Forum for more information about this upcoming formation experience.

Tongues of FIre at All Saints'

Pentecost Sunday falls on June 9 this year and it will be a day of celebration at All Saints'! We'll remember the outpouring of the Holy Spirit and the birth of the Church and also initiate Athena Celine Anderson into Christ's Body by Holy Baptism; Athena is the one-year-old granddaughter of Ron and Phala Anderson.

Here's the plan: Origami doves will fly in Shoemaker Hall, our children will join the Procession at the 10:30 Eucharist waving fabric flames; and a reception in honor of Athena after the 10:30 service will include special cakes and a "Tongues of Fire" Potluck Brunch. You can help prepare for this special day: Patterns and paper for making the doves will be available in Shoemaker Hall on May 26 and June 2. Parishioners are invited to fold some doves at home and bring them back to church where they will be displayed on June 9. Michaelene Miller and our Youth will also be creating doves.
Plan to bring your favorite hot and spicy dish (or maybe a food that is just hot, or red, and not so spicy!) to share at the "Tongues of Fire" Brunch.

Parents can speak with Sunday School teacher Diane Yarbrough about their children of all ages marching with "flames" in the Procession that will begin the Service.

Office Volunteers Needed

Summer Break for Wednesday Morning Bible Study

Our Wednesday morning bible study is taking a break for the summer. We will reconvene after Labor Day to continue our trek through the books of the bible, picking up at that time with the book of Jeremiah.
Follow Up on the Easter Egg Hunt Transformation

This past Easter, All Saints' added some formational flourishes to the annual Easter Egg Hunt. Like at many churches, attendance increases on Easter and there are many folks who attend church for the first time, especially children. With this in mind, All Saints' wanted to intentionally offer some Christian formation and teaching. All of the children were invited to participate in the annual Easter Egg Hunt, but, as they emptied their eggs this year, they found both candy and "Saintly Shekels" -- play money in several denominations. Children were invited to drop their "Saintly Shekels" into three jars representing local non-profit charities that help children: CASA, Equestrian Zone, and River Valley Food 4 Kids. The play money was later replaced with real money and over a hundred dollars was donated to these charities. It was a wonderful formational experience that communicated Jesus' message about caring for and loving our neighbors. A warm thank you is extended to all those who helped All Saints' transform the Easter Egg Hunt.

VBS Volunteers

All Saints' Episcopal Church is again partnering with Central Presbyterian Church for Vacation Bible School. This summer, VBS will be hosted at CPC and it will be a one day event on Saturday, June 22nd from 9:00am to 3:00pm. The 2019 theme reflects the storybook, "Who is My Neighbor?" and the gospel story of the Good Samaritan. Volunteers are needed in many capacities, such as setting up, registration, chaperoning and shuffling groups from activity to activity, support in the kitchen during meal preparation, and cleaning up. Whatever your gift, we have a role for you! Contact [email protected] to express interest!

Readings For The Sixth Sunday of Easter

First Reading: Acts 16:9-15

During the night Paul had a vision: there stood a man of Macedonia pleading with him and saying, "Come over to Macedonia and help us." When he had seen the vision, we immediately tried to cross over to Macedonia, being convinced that God had called us to proclaim the good news to them.
We set sail from Troas and took a straight course to Samothrace, the following day to Neapolis, and from there to Philippi, which is a leading city of the district of Macedonia and a Roman colony. We remained in this city for some days. On the sabbath day we went outside the gate by the river, where we supposed there was a place of prayer; and we sat down and spoke to the women who had gathered there. A certain woman named Lydia, a worshiper of God, was listening to us; she was from the city of Thyatira and a dealer in purple cloth. The Lord opened her heart to listen eagerly to what was said by Paul. When she and her household were baptized, she urged us, saying, "If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come and stay at my home." And she prevailed upon us.

Psalm 67

May God be merciful to us and bless us, *
show us the light of his countenance and come to us.
2 Let your ways be known upon earth, *
your saving health among all nations.
3 Let the peoples praise you, O God; *
let all the peoples praise you.
4 Let the nations be glad and sing for joy, *
for you judge the peoples with equity
and guide all the nations upon earth.
5 Let the peoples praise you, O God; *
let all the peoples praise you.
6 The earth has brought forth her increase; *
may God, our own God, give us his blessing.
7 May God give us his blessing, *
and may all the ends of the earth stand in awe of him.

Second: Revelation 21:10, 22-27; 22:1-5

In the spirit the angel carried me away to a great, high mountain and showed me the holy city Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God.
I saw no temple in the city, for its temple is the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb. And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God is its light, and its lamp is the Lamb. The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it. Its gates will never be shut by day-- and there will be no night there. People will bring into it the glory and the honor of the nations. But nothing unclean will enter it, nor anyone who practices abomination or falsehood, but only those who are written in the Lamb's book of life.
Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb through the middle of the street of the city. On either side of the river is the tree of life with its twelve kinds of fruit, producing its fruit each month; and the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations. Nothing accursed will be found there any more. But the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and his servants will worship him; they will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. And there will be no more night; they need no light of lamp or sun, for the Lord God will be their light, and they will reign forever and ever.

The Gospel: John 5:1-9

After Jesus healed the son of the official in Capernaum, there was a festival of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
Now in Jerusalem by the Sheep Gate there is a pool, called in Hebrew Beth-zatha, which has five porticoes. In these lay many invalids-- blind, lame, and paralyzed. One man was there who had been ill for thirty-eight years. When Jesus saw him lying there and knew that he had been there a long time, he said to him, "Do you want to be made well?" The sick man answered him, "Sir, I have no one to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up; and while I am making my way, someone else steps down ahead of me." Jesus said to him, "Stand up, take your mat and walk." At once the man was made well, and he took up his mat and began to walk. Now that day was a sabbath.
