No Increase in MAB Dues During These Challenging Times
The MAB Board of Directors voted to keep the membership dues investment at the same low rate it was last year. Membership renewals went out through the mail and email a couple of weeks ago. FCC Makes Clear that Lowest Unit Charges for Candidate Ads Ends on Election Day

The FCC (11/2) released a Public Notice making clear that lowest unit rates (or lowest unit charges) end on Election Day. Some broadcasters had asked the question, fearful that there would be political advertising bought after Election Day to take positions on issues about counting the vote and other legal matters that could arise in a contested election and, if that advertising was bought by the campaign committees of those standing for election today, lowest unit rates would still be in effect. But the FCC made clear that Section 315 of the Communications Act, which requires that these rates be afforded to candidates, means what it says - that these rates apply only in the 60 days before a general election (and the 45 days before a political primary). Ken Frierson Appointed VP/GM of WNEM
On November 2, Meredith Corporation announced that it has promoted Ken Frierson to Vice President and General Manager of WNEM-TV 5, Meredith's CBS affiliate in the Saginaw-Flint, Michigan market, effective immediately. Frierson was WNEM's General Sales Manager. Read More

Rock Jock Legend Anne Carlini Joins Black Diamond's WGFM/WGFE
Longtime Michigan radio personality Anne Carlini has joined Black Diamond Broadcasting's WGFM/WGFE (Traverse City) for the midday shift on the stations. Carlini takes over for current midday host Roxanne Steel, who has stepped down to pursue an off-air opportunity. Read More

'Meltdown' Celebrates 25 Years at WRIF
Beasley Media Group is congratulating Mark "Meltdown" Milligan on his 25th anniversary at WRIF-FM (Detroit). The veteran rock radio personality originally joined the station on November 1, 1995 as the overnight jock before eventually becoming the WRIF's nighttime on air personality. Read More

WLUC Takes Canathon 2020 Virtual
WLUC-TV has teamed up with area radio stations to present the annual TV6 Canathon. With the COVID-19 pandemic, this year's event is virtual. Rather than donating cans at various collection sites, participants can make a monetary donation to the food pantry of their choice on the official event website. Read More

WGVU Goes Virtual with Food, Wine & All That Jazz
WGVU Public Media is holding its annual Food, Wine & All That Jazz fundraiser on a virtual platform this year. The event is scheduled for Thursday, November 19. Supporters can purchase vouchers, pick up a tasting kit from the station's studio the afternoon of the event, and then join the virtual event at 6:30 p.m. Read More
