Video Greeting from Principal Mittleman

Greeting Daves Avenue Families,
I hope this message finds you and your family healthy and well as we work through the sixth week of the Shelter-in-Place order. At this time, it is important that we continue to adhere to the guidelines and stay strong in our efforts to slow the spread of the COVID-19 Virus.
As you know, our Remote Learning journey has evolved over the last several weeks and this past Monday we formally instituted Phase 3.
Below is a link to a recently published document that answers frequently asked questions about LGUSD’s Remote Learning program where you can find information about:
- What lens has the district used to make decisions about Remote Learning?
- What is meant by asynchronous and synchronous learning?
- What are the instructional platforms being utilized during Remote Learning?
- What resources are available for families who wish to enrich or extend Remote Learning activities in their home?
- What resources are available to help parents cope with this unprecedented experience?
- What if I have questions about Special Education or my child’s 504 Plan?
- What is the amount of work time expected for my child each day?
- How are we going to measure progress during Remote Learning?
- How will I know if my child has met the standards for their grade level?
- Will all students be moving onto the next grade level?
Additionally, here are some additional resources available to all Daves Avenue Families:
Please remind your Cool Cat(s) that Spirit Day is this Friday ~ wear your sunglasses!

There are so many ways to keep your creative minds stimulated during this time at home. If you would like to share a project you've been working on, we'd love to see it! Please send a short (~1 minute) video of your student with their creation or experimental findings! Please have the student state their name, grade, and teacher and send videos to

Hello Green Team and fellow stewards of the environment!
We wanted to reach out to you all in hopes you and your loved ones are staying healthy during this unprecedented time. We want to let you know we are still here, still working, and will return once we get back to school to carry on our mission and "stay green".
During our shelter-in-place, many things are still moving forward. Our new shirts have arrived, we've started our Spring gardens at home, and we've used the compost that we learned to make during our sessions in our own garden. We also have a new arch to hang our "Daves Avenue Garden of Wisdom" sign from, and a couple of decorative mobile garden wagons to plant herbs and other small plants.
This week is Earth Week, and Earth Day is Today
!
We had planned several fun and educational things for this year's Earth Week prior to the shelter-in-place, but no worries, we can explore those ideas in the coming months!
If you are looking for activities to keep the spirit of Green Team and environmental stewardship relevant during this time, or simply for things to do, the following site has a lot of great ideas and digital resources:

Remember to stay green and stay healthy

Feed Our Heroes is a campaign, led by our Los Gatos Education community, to supply free meals to local healthcare workers fighting the coronavirus.
The campaign has already raised money for over 2,200 meals, but more are needed. All meals are sourced from Los Gatos restaurants, providing local businesses much-needed support during these tough times.
A simple meal at the end of a long shift is well-deserved thanks to our healthcare worker’s dedication and service.
We hope you will join us and contribute to Feed Our Heroes.
All donations are tax-deductible and 100% of the funds go towards purchasing meals.
Feed Our Heroes fits alongside #FeedTheNeed BayArea, another local initiative led by the Los Gatos Chamber of Commerce. #FeedTheNeedBayArea provides meals for the most vulnerable Los Gatos citizens (seniors, displaced workers, low-income families), while Feed Our Heroes supports healthcare workers. Both campaigns are worthy of your support.
