Active Military, Veterans & Families

All who serve or have served in the U.S. Armed Forces including the reserves, are welcome to enjoy Memorial Day, Monday, May 27, 2019, with your family at any of the Fairfax County RECenters or lakefront park at no charge.  Amusements vary by park location.

Come enjoy our pools, fitness rooms, boat rides, drop-in fitness classes, mini golf, carousels, camping, gyms, and train rides.

The Honoring America's Veterans program is made possible through generous contributions to the Fairfax County Park Foundation from individual donors and John Marshall Bank. It is also supported by donations to the Park Foundation that honor the life of Lt. Col. Gary F. Smith, (pictured) a civilian employee of the Army who, at the time of his death, was attending a meeting at the Pentagon when American Airlines Flight 77 struck.  He spent many seasons coaching girls soccer on numerous Fairfax County parks including Grist Mill Park in Alexandria, home of the LTC Gary F. Smith Field.

Click here for additional details about the numerous amenities.  Honor your special veteran or active military by making a gift in their honor today!  Provide an address and we will send an attractive card notifying that individual or their family of this honor.

Summer Camp Fun for All

Through the very generous donations from the Community Foundation of Northern Virginia, Claude Moore Charitable Foundation, George Preston Marshall Foundation, Let's Help Kids, and V olkswagen and many individual donors, children living in homeless shelters and supportive housing will be attending Fairfax County Park Authority camps this summer.

Each year the Park Foundation plays a key role in coordinating the efforts of shelter providers, donors and camp organizers.  By working together, we are able to send more  children to summer day camps.   In addition to helping pass the joyous days of summer vacation, campers learn many new experiences that enrich their lives.

There is still time to make a donation to the PACT program.  A $225 donation will fund one week of a traditional summer camp for one child but all donations are welcomed! Thanks for helping put a smile on a child's face.

Virginia is for 'Fairfax County Park' Lovers!

'Virginia is for Lovers' is one of the most iconic tourism slogans in the world, and we are thrilled to be celebrating fifty years of LOVE with partners from around the Commonwealth in 2019," said Rita McClenny, President and CEO of Virginia Tourism Corporation.

In celebration of this golden anniversary, Fairfax County's tourism bureau, Visit Fairfax has partnered with the Fairfax County tourism community to welcome its first-ever permanent "LOVEwork" sign to the destination in a way that honors the spirit of travel.

The iconic Virginia LOVE letters made their debut on The Plaza at Tysons Corner in May.  Watch for it at the Mosaic District and other locations in Fairfax County throughout the summer of 2019.  Bring your camera to  Frying Pan Farm Park and capture a great memory from July 26 through August 4 .  LOVE will find a permanent home at the Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton.
