Former Mayor Alan McGraw sworn in as Municipal Court Judge
Former Mayor Alan McGraw was sworn in as the City of Round Rock’s new Municipal Court Judge on Friday, May 10.

Round Rock City Council unanimously named McGraw as the new Judge at its May 9 meeting. The appointment comes following the passing of former Municipal Court Judge, Dan McNery, who dedicated 37 years of service as the Court’s presiding judge.

McGraw, who served as Round Rock’s mayor for three terms starting in 2008, has been a practicing attorney since 1992.

Lucas Wilson was also named to the position of Associate Judge at Thursday’s meeting and will be sworn in at a later date.

Municipal Court Judge positions are appointed by a vote of the City Council, as set forth in the City of Round Rock’s charter.
Round Rock ranks among top cities for living the American Dream
The latest ranking of the best cities in the nation to live the American Dream has red, white, and Round Rock written all over it.

Round Rock ranked No. 6 on the list compiled by SmartAsset – one of three Texas cities to find their way into the top 10. The financial technology company based its 2019 findings on homeownership rate, diversity rate, upward mobility rate, median home value and unemployment rate.

“Round Rock, Texas, located near Austin, is the final Lone Star State town on this list,” the company wrote. “The unemployment rate is 3.40%, and it has a homeownership rate of 67.79%.”

Top five reasons to collect rainwater this spring
The City’s water conservation program is selling rain barrels at a discounted price to encourage residents to conserve water resources as well as to protect water quality. Here are a few reasons you should consider collecting rainwater:

  1. It reduces your water bill. Rainwater is free!
  2. It improves plant growth. Rainwater is always better for plants than treated tap water, due to its nitrogen content.
  3. It prevents flooding and erosion. Capturing the water allows you to release it slowly over the days following a rain storm.
  4. It reduces demand on water sources. Although the City of Round Rock has plans in place to increase its water supply to meet the needs of our growing community, conservation is key to being good stewards of our resources.
  5. City of Round Rock water customers receive a sweet deal when they choose to save. Through May 27, the City’s water conservation program is selling rain barrels at a discounted price, which can be combined with the City’s rainwater rebate for maximum savings!
