What if SNAP benefits increased by 15%?
A new county and congressional district analysis
The COVID-19 crisis is increasing hunger and hardship throughout California. Congress has an opportunity to substantially lessen the hardship and boost economic recovery by funding a temporary 15% boost to SNAP benefits (known as CalFresh in California) in the next COVID-19 recovery package.

To help decision makers understand just how critical the need, we projected the social and economic impact that a 15% boost to SNAP benefits would have in California by county and congressional district.  Although the recession is expected to last much longer, the analysis narrows in on July-September, when unemployment is expected to peak at over 15% and key relief measures will begin to turn off.

Help shape the next federal coronavirus legislation
Negotiations on the next recovery package are expected to take place when the House and Senate return from the July 4th recess. This may be our last chance to secure critical hunger relief. Before decisions are made, we need your help ensuring that members of Congress are consistently hearing about the need for action over the next few weeks. Share these powerful data and graphics with your members of congress, networks, and local leaders - ask that they also amplify the need to strengthen SNAP and other critical nutrition supports in the next recovery package. Take action here...
