Haverford Business Developments - June 2020
Support for Businesses During the Coronavirus Crisis
Although our staff are primarily working from home, HPED continues to support Haverford Township businesses during this difficult time. Feel free to contact us at [email protected] with questions or suggestions on ways we can help businesses.

We have recently gotten the go-ahead to begin working on the planters in our businesses districts, so you can look forward to seeing some beauty and color soon!
We have been compiling and publishing resources for businesses on our Discover Haverford website. It includes
  • links to grants and loans available to small businesses
  • business webinars centered on the coronavirus crisis
  • information about regional and state-wide small business centers

Check it out at the link below:
Check your Insurance Policy for Interruption Insurance!
Business insurance policies may cover loss of income and/or coverage for business interruptions caused by things outside of the business’ control – such as the current stay at home order(s). However, the interpretation of the scope of a policy’s coverage and whether a policy excludes such coverage is often vigorously contested in courts – and those battles have already begun for the current COVID-19 situation.
Outdoor Dining in the Yellow Phase
Outdoor dining will be allowed in the Yellow Phase, which is scheduled to start on Friday, June 5th.

HPED has been working with the Township to create a plan to allow restaurants to temporarily expand outdoor dining during the COVID-19 crisis. We are committed to finding ways to support our businesses and we ask that you do the same!

HPED Names New Board President

We are excited to welcome John Ondik as the new president of HPED, having served on the board for the past three years. John is owner of the ondik group, management consultants and is Program Director, Venture Advising for the Snider Center at Penn Wharton Entrepreneurship, and Senior Business Consultant and Instructor at Temple University Small Business Development Center.

Other Members of the Executive Committee are Vice-President Brian Niles (Owner of House Cup Coffee Roasters & House Cup Cafe), Treasurer Mike Mallick (Valley Forge Financial Group), and Secretary Christine Faris.
Thanks for your Dedication!
With an abundance of gratitude, HPED thanks Board President Don Kelly, who has passed the gavel to John Ondik. Don launched and led the Task Force for Business Revitalization as part of the Haverford Township Civic Council 15 years ago, which morphed into HPED in 2010. Don has served faithfully on the HPED board for the past ten years, and as President for the past four.

Lucky for us, Don will remain on the HPED board and continue to work on the Triangle Garden, the Windows & Facades Committee, and the Holiday Decorating Contest.

We also want to thank retiring board member Ken Wing, who has served on the board for the past ten years, including several as Treasurer. Involved even during the years when we were a Task Force, Ken was also instrumental in leading public meetings and our annual retreat.

How Residents can Safeguard our Businesses
During the Coronavirus Crisis

Haverford Partnership for Economic Development (HPED) is committed to supporting local businesses, especially our family-owned businesses, during the coronavirus crisis. We know that Haverford Township residents are also eager to support our businesses at this time.
There are many ways that residents can support businesses while keeping your family safe:

  • Order and pay online when possible
  • Take advantage of curbside pick-up, delivery, and shipping options
  • When we enter the Yellow Phase, enjoy outdoor dining at participating restaurants.
  • Purchase gift cards from businesses who are closed to tide them over during this crisis. Consider buying a gift card for someone who is working at an essential business, such as hospital staff and first responders, or for an elderly friend or neighbor.
  • For businesses that are closed, like your hair salon, barbershop, gift shop, realtor, fitness center, you can support them by liking their Facebook page, leaving an online review, commenting on or liking their posts!
  • Join HPED as a Resident Member ($25) to support our work Click here for membership form.
  • You may also want to support other local non-profit organizations whose fundraising efforts have stalled, by following them on Facebook or making a donation: HT Free Library, HT Historical Society, the Grange Estate, Kelly Music for Life (Kelly Center), Haverford Music Fest, HT Adult School, etc.

We have compiled information about the status of businesses in the Township and posted it on the  Discover Haverford  website, starting first with our restaurants and stores, so that residents can see which businesses are open, open for pick-up and delivery only, and which ones are closed.

We are asking businesses to email  [email protected]  so that we have the most accurate and current information to post.
