2019 PSA Symposia Program
The 2019 PSA Annual Meeting (July 15-18, 2019) will present eleven symposia, lectures and workshops of current interest to the international poultry industry and poultry science community. Below is the focus on a symposium taking place on: Wednesday, July 17, 2019 at 1:00 PM
Symposium: The Bird and its Ecosystem: A Global Approach for an Efficient Production

Chairs: Robert B. Shirley, Adisseo USA
Pierre-André Geraert, Adisseo France SAS
How to work with a complete and dynamic ecosystem is the challenge facing today’s nutritionist. Indeed, a nutritionist has not only to feed birds, but to feed a complete ecosystem integrating the host and its large microbiome. Nutrition Ecology is a term that better describes how nutrition should move forward. From the importance of the gut microbiota on the host’s endocrine signaling to the host’s redox balance, the evolving challenge to nutritionist is defining how to work with a complete ecosystem and the influence of the microbiota on the host’s response. Having a global and integrative view of how the intestinal microbiome and the animal’s body function together is the basis of sustainable nutrition. Without ignoring common husbandry practices, complementarity of nutritional solutions is key for optimal performance and sustainability of both the animal and food production chains.
