"Widening the Circle"
Cultures define what is normal and what is not - whose voices dominate, what ideas are more important than others. And, it is possible to expand the edges of the circles we live within to include ideas and values that are right nearby but too often unseen. This morning we will highlight the Society's connection with Vermont Interfaith Action, and reflect on how partnerships help to grow this congregation's circle.

"Binding Each to All"
Some communities and traditions we are born into; others we choose to join, and sometimes even help to lead. What does it mean to "belong" to a congregation? Some reflections on the ways life has of calling us into becoming the persons we are meant to be.
This Sunday Wayne and Sam will be playing as prelude to the service a Mozart sonata for piano four-hands, a work rarely performed. Come listen and reflect at about ten minutes before the hour! They will also be performing a work for piano and organ for the postlude!

FUUSB Together Autumn Auction
|
|
Announcing the return of the service auction,
now called the FUUSB Together Autumn Auction.
The auction this year will be focused on building connections in the FUUSB community. We are looking for donations of events, services, lessons, and activities. These could range from the ever popular dinner parties, to other gatherings that bring UUs together like game nights and sledding parties. Also popular are lessons (piano, skiing, kayaking, needlepoint, etc.), lawn mowing, dog sitting, knife sharpening, special order cakes and anything else you're good at that other people might not even know you do. We are encouraging any donations of physical items like art and gifts wait until the Holiday Bazaar in December.
The Auction will be held in November.
(The web address is case-sensitive.)
A catalog of items available for auction will be published on November 10.
Bid sheets will be posted in the Parlors on November 17.
All bidding will close on the 17th at 11:30.
FREE Soup Luncheon served in the Community Room on November 17.
We encourage all participants to
gather downstairs on the 17th for FREE soup and snacks provided by the 6th grade Boston trip.
We will tally the winners of each auction item on the 17th so you will know what you've won when you're done with your soup. We will also collect payment for the auction items on the 17th (cash, check, or credit card).
If you have questions, please contact
or any member of the board.

Racism in UUism Book Reading and Discussion - Darkening the Doorways
|
|
Zoe Hart
The Racism in UUism book discussion group is starting the third and final book in our series: Rev. Dr. Mark D. Morrison-Reed's Darkening the Doorways: Black Trailblazers and Missed Opportunities in Unitarian Universalism. Rev. Dr. Morrison-Reed's book provides stories and achievements of African Americans in Unitarian Universalism as well as insight into the history of racism that has brought our denomination to where we are today. All are welcome to join us, whether you read the first two books or not. We'll be placing a bulk order for books in the next week. If you're interested, contact Zoe Hart (
[email protected]
).
If you missed our first two books and are interested in learning more about the experiences of people of color in Unitarian Universalism, you can borrow a copy of either book from our First UU Adult Library.
Unitarian Universalists of Color, edited by Yuri Yamamoto, Chandra Snell, and Tim Hanami, contains essays written by contemporary UUs of color.
Centering: Navigating Race, Authenticity, and Power in Ministry, edited by Mitra Rahnema, contains essays written by contemporary UU ministers of color. Both books are powerful and can be easily read one essay at a time.

Temporary Tech Support for Christina
|
|
Christina Fulton, Director of Operations and Finance
Database Support
We are beginning the process of moving to a new database software program. The last time we did this, about 5 years ago, I tried really hard to do it all myself. But as you might have guessed, that didn't work so well for me. So I am looking for 4 or 5 people who would be willing to help me out.
I am looking for people who are tech-friendly (you do not need to be an IT professional, just someone comfortable with using software programs), who would be willing to be trained on our new software, and who would be willing to help other members sign up with our new program (this would most likely happen on Sunday mornings). All of this will be taking place over the next few months.
If you are interested, please contact me at
[email protected]
.
Screen Support
I am looking for a tech-savvy person to help us get the screen outside Mary's office up and running again. If you have knowledge of how to make this magic happen, I would really like to speak with you!
