March 7, 2020 - March 15, 2020 

City Offices will be closed on Tuesday, March 10, 2020 for Presidential Primary Election - this is a very important day to cast your vote for the Primary Election.  All city offices will be closed, including the 18th District Court, and The William P. Faust Library.  Trash pick up will not be affected.  Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. to vote.  If you have any questions regarding the election, please call the clerk's office at 734-467-3185. 

Scheduled Upcoming Civic Meetings - Residents are invited to attend the upcoming City meetings.  Below is a list of the meetings with their date, time and location:   
  • The Board of Review: The Board of Review will meet to hear appeals by appointment only on Monday, March 9 from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m., and 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 11 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., and Thursday, March 12, 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., at Westland City Hall located at 36300 Warren Road.  For more information or to make an appointment please contact the Assessing office at (734) 467-3160.

The Jefferson Barns Community Vitality Center is hosting JBLL PI DAY on Thursday, March 12, 2020 from 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m., located at 32150 Dorsey Street.  Come on out and spend the afternoon with us! Activities include: Circular Robotics Racing, Pi Chain Building, Virtual Reality Demonstrations, Catapult Demonstrations, Micro bit Programming and, of course, PIE!!! 2020 Health and Business Expo - The Westland Chamber of Commerce is hosting the 2020 Health and Business Expo on Saturday March 14, 2020 at the Westland Shopping Center located at 35000 Warren Road, in the East Court of the Shopping Center. This expo gives businesses the opportunity to advertise their goods and services in a comfortable spacious atmosphere from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.  This expo features businesses, health care providers and non-profit organizations.  Learn more about these vendors and get free handouts.  For more information, contact the Chamber at 734-326-7222 or email [email protected]    

The Friends of the Library will be hosting a Children's Book Sale at the William P. Faust Library located at 6123 Central City Parkway, on Saturday, March 14, 2020 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Sunday March 15, 2020 from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in Faust area. In honor of March is Reading Month, for two days ALL children's and young adult books will be only 10 cents each!  It might be your lucky day if you find a shamrock! The William P. Faust Library will be hosting a Saturday Movie Matinee on Saturday March 14, 2020 at 1:00 p.m., located at 6123 Central City Parkway.  This week's movie will be Knives Out, this movie is rated PG-13. Doors open at 12:45 PM and the movie starts at 1:00 PM. When renowned crime novelist Harlan Thrombey dies just after his 85th birthday, the inquisitive and debonair Detective Benoit Blanc arrives at his estate to investigate. From Harlan's dysfunctional family to his devoted staff, Blanc sifts through a web of red herrings and self-serving lies to uncover the truth behind Thrombey's untimely demise. Snacks/refreshments are provided - donations are accepted and appreciated.

SAVE THE DATE - Hockey Night in Westland Mayor William R. Wild, along with his Westland Wild Wings, are once again getting ready to lace up their skates to challenge the Detroit Red Wing Alumni in the 11th Annual Hockey Night in Westland charity event. The event, being presented by North Brothers Ford, will be held on ice on Friday, March 20 at the Mike Modano Ice Arena located at 6210 N. Wildwood St. in Westland. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and at 6:00 p.m. our very own Westland Hockey Association Mini-Mites and Mites will take the ice to show off their skills. The Red Wing Alumni and the Westland Wild Wings will take the ice at 7:00 p.m. This event has turned into one of the community's most anticipated events. Tickets for the event are $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 6 to 12. (Kids 5 and under are free).   "Hockey Night in Westland is the City's premier annual sporting event," commented Mayor Wild. "While we battle it out on the ice, the true winners of the event are the youth hockey and figure skating groups as well as members of the community who utilize the arena. Proceeds from the event have helped to fund improvement projects at Modano, which is looking better than ever."  Tickets are available for purchase at Westland City Hall, the Mike Modano Ice arena, North Brothers Ford (33300 Ford Rd.) and online at https://westland.ticketleap.com/2020-hockey-night-in-westland/ Seating is limited so be sure to get your tickets soon.
