Students learn leadership, government at virtual seminars
The HOBY Leadership Seminar and Hoosier Girls and Boys State programs are summer traditions in which our students participate. This summer, these events were held virtually, and three students attended.

Juniors John Walthers and Casey Kaelin attended the HOBY seminar in order to develop greater leadership skills, not just at school but in the community as well. John said he also wanted to interact with others who desire the same thing, and Casey said he also valued the networking opportunities that could help with job opportunities in the future.
Senior Kadie O’Bannon attended the virtual Hoosier Girls State sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary in order to learn more about the American political and government process. The seven-day virtual conference included the opportunity for the 100 participants from across the state to create a two-party political system, create a pretend state government, and consider legislation. She was elected a senator and won an award.
New teacher, staff member happy to join PHS community
We welcome a new teacher and new staff member to Providence. Mr. Andrew O’Neill is the new campus minister, and Mrs. Kelly Stenzhorn teaches French part time. Mr. O’Neill recently earned his bachelor’s degree in English and theology at Bellarmine University and is enjoying his first full-time job. He will plan retreats, school liturgies, and prayer events.
Mrs. Stenzhorn is certified to teach French and English and chose to teach French part-time because it fits her schedule. She teaches all four years of French, including regular, honors, and ACP and looks forward to marking the students’ progress over time

Two-week Scout hike challenging, memorable for students
Seven students had the adventure of a lifetime this summer as they hiked for two weeks through the Sangre de Cristo Mountain range in New Mexico. Their 100-mile trek through the BSA’s Philmont Scout Ranch, which covers 140,177 acres of wilderness in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, the southernmost subrange of the Rocky Mountains, is one of the Scouting organization’s most challenging high adventures. The students, who belong to Troop 10 and Venture Crew 10 at St. Anthony of Padua in Clarksville, included Monica Nokes ’20, seniors Sarah Boehm, Will Harper, Caleb Heiligenberg, and Jack Kaiser, junior Mark Nokes, and freshmen Margaux Heiligenberg and Mary Braden.

Freshman part of state-champion club soccer team
Freshman Molly Richards is a state champion before even starting her first season as a PHS Girls Soccer player. She played for the club soccer organization Javanon FC, and her team won The State Cup in Kentucky at the end of May. At the end of June, the team competed in the Midwest Regional Championship in St. Louis and advanced to the finals, coming in second out of 13 states.

Molly, who plays defensive midfielder, is now on the varsity Girls Soccer team. She has played since age 3 and loves the sport, as does her older brother, junior Ethan Richards, who was on the 1A state championship Boys Soccer team last year. She said she enjoys soccer because she likes being active as well as being part of a team. She also enjoys being a state champion like her brother.

“It was a great feeling (to win),” she said. “It was a long time coming since we were second the two previous years. It felt good to finally accomplish that.”
Football team continues preseason helmet blessing tradition
The Football team held its annual Blessing of the Helmets ceremony, with St. Michael pastor and former PHS chaplain Father Adam Ahern providing the blessing. This year, the team invited Deanery fifth through eighth grade players, coaches, and families to join the varsity and junior varsity teams in the preseason ceremony, an addition Coach Daniel McDonald hopes to continue. That ceremony was followed by the PHS Senior Jersey Ceremony for the varsity team. (See banner photo above.)
Cheer team to host future cheerleader clinic
The Providence Cheer team will host a clinic for grades preschool through eight on Saturday, Aug. 21, from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. Participants will play games with their peers and learn valuable cheerleading skills; a small snack will be provided as well.
The clinic will feature sideline cheers and one longer cheer that participants will perform on the sidelines the first quarter of the game on Aug. 27 against Rock Creek High School.

The cost for the clinic is $30 per-girl and includes a t-shirt to wear during their performance. Walk-ins are welcome. To register your child please mail or email the attached form. For questions, please call/text coach Christie Evanczyk at (812) 207-6544, or email at providencehscheer@gmail.com.
Assistant coach needed

Please email providencehscheer@gmail.com for more information and to set up an interview.
Sports Spotlight
Spotlight on Cheer, Dance
This issue, the Sports Spotlight features Cheer and Dance, teams that have seasons that start with fall sports and continue through winter sports, performing or cheering primarily at Football and Boys Basketball games while supporting all other sports.

From the Dance Team, otherwise known as the Blue Crew, we spotlight seniors Maya Paris and Sydney Allen, nominated by Coach Debbie (Popp) Miller ’87. Coach Miller said she is proud of how Maya and Sydney, the only seniors on the team, are role models for the younger members.

From the Cheer team, we spotlight junior Grace Ueding and senior Ella Tichy, nominated by Coach Christie Evanczyk ’09. The two are leaders who give their best effort, Coach Evanczyk said.

Let Us Pray
A Back-to-School Prayer
Blessed are you, Lord God,
Creator of body and mind and heart;
you have sent the Spirit of wisdom and knowledge
to guide your people in all their ways.

At the beginning of this new school year,
in this time of uncertainty and anxiety,
we implore your mercy.

Bless and protect our students, teachers,
staffs, their families, and especially _____.

Give wisdom to the decision makers,
be they in our schools or in our homes.
Expand the horizons of our minds,
and deepen our commitment to seek
the truth of your ways.
Enliven our faith to reach out to those in need,
particularly those isolated and lonely.

In these days when so much has changed,
help us to trust in the love of your Son Jesus,
our Divine Teacher, who is the same
yesterday, today, and forever.
Amen.
