Join us for the largest annual gathering of UUs joining in worship. This powerful, communal worship experience is open to the public. Rev. Joan Javier-Duval will deliver the sermon at the 2020 General Assembly Sunday Morning Worship. She serves as Minister of the Unitarian Church of Montpelier, VT. She is the daughter of immigrants from the Philippines, mother of a kindergartner, and spouse of a proud Vermonter. Beauty, gratitude, and love are at the heart of her faithful striving for collective liberation and a thriving planet.
The worship service will include a collection for the
Tomaquag Museum, an indigenous museum featuring an extensive collection and archive of Southern New England tribal communities.

Sunday Circle and New Saturday Circle
Sunday Circle - 9:00 am
We have been reflecting on how to navigate forward in these unprecedented times, mindful of our UU Principles, and seeking ways to find social, economic and environmental justice for our shared world.

Last week, Karen Glikman gave us an overview of Kate Haworth's model for the 21st century need to change economic thinking to ensure the well-being of all people AND the preservation of the biosphere.

We need to use human creativity and collaboration to find BALANCE between the needs of all humans and the needs of the planet we depend on for survival.

(For graphics and good YouTube talks, see Kate Haworth's website  https://www.kateraworth.com/doughnut/)

This week, and with keeping BALANCE in mind, we'll return to some questions that have been proposed by Circle members:

In the New World that is trying to emerge, what role do you see yourself playing?

What are my strengths? My gifts? And how can I  use my knowledge and skills to help our world, our country, and our community?

Come think together about  How Do We Thrive in Balance...

Minister's Column

Dear Ones,

Summer is upon us! I will be stepping back from leading weekly worship, and give more time to rest and study in the coming weeks.  I will next lead the service on July 19. I will be "in the office" off and on between now and then, and then be fully away except for emergencies from July 20 until August 17. I'll resume leading services regularly August 23.

My gratitude to all the leaders and staff keeping our train on the tracks as I step back, and all the wonderful guest speakers our Worship Associates have lined up. Gratitude especially to our affiliated minister Rev. Theresa Novak for stepping up to preach twice this summer -- having a familiar face leading Zoom services makes such a difference.

With you on the journey,
Rev. Marcus Hartlief

Update From Our COVID-19 Task Force

The COVID-19 Task Force continues to monitor the updates from the UUA, CDC, State and County about resuming church functions. You many have seen updates from Marin County that outdoor worship and ceremonies are now permitted by the county. However, we have many steps that need to be taken before we would be able to resume outdoor gatherings consistent with the county and state guidelines. In addition, we are taking a cautious approach to reopening in order to do our part to protect the health of our members and staff.

For all of those reasons, the Board of Trustees has endorsed the recommendation that no outdoor worship or celebrations will be held at UUCM until after Labor Day unless there is a specific approval of the event by the Board on a case-by-case basis. We would expect these exceptions to be limited to members of the congregation or particularly compelling circumstances (e.g., a wedding that must take place urgently because of an immigration or health consideration, or a memorial service for one of our members). We will, of course, continue to seek input from the congregation and monitor official guidance and revise our recommendations as conditions warrant. We will likely move forward with smaller meetings or gatherings before we resume worship.  Please get in touch with the Task Force Chair, Doug Kerr, if you have any questions or input for the task force.

Teacher Search for Religious Exploration Programs

We at
UUCM are looking for passionate, creative teachers to grow resilient, resourceful youth by  creating caring connections and traditions, inviting curiosity and spiritual exploration and  exploring ways to build a better and more compassionate world together.

We are looking to fill four 4-5 hour per week paid teacher positions as follows:

Early Childhood Teacher - infants to kindergarten
Elementary Age Teacher - 1st  to 5th grade
Youth Coordinator - 6th to 8th/9th grade
Youth Advisor - 9th to 12th grade

Our ideal candidates will have:
  • experience with organization, coordination and implementation of educational programs for youth, ideally in UU settings;
  • familiarity with, and excitement about, a children empowerment model;
  • knowledge of age-appropriate content and instructional practices;
  • excellent written and oral communication skills; facility with media and technology including digital meeting platforms;
  • a sense of humor and capacity for joy and play;
  • experience with or knowledge of Unitarian Universalism; and
  • education or experience in teaching, and/or children programming.
A religious educator who does not have all the necessary expertise and experience may still be considered and would be supported for growth through on-the-job training, continuing education, and leadership development.

If you or someone you know would be a good fit for any of these positions, please review or pass on the job descriptions and the COVID-19 addendum.

To apply:  submit a brief letter of interest, resume and at least three references by June 26, 2020  (or until the positions are filled) to Rev. Lynne Scarpa at  revlynne@uumarin.org
