Daily Devotions

Daily Devotions with Messiah Staff and Friends has completed its first series. We started in the middle of March and have been going strong throughout this time of pandemic. We will be taking a sabbatical in July and August, but the daily devotions will begin again on Tuesday, September 1. A heartfelt words of thanksgiving to everyone who contributed, watched, and prayed together throughout these early months of the pandemic.
Worship Bulletins

The worship bulletins that are sent out electronically on Saturday are printable from your home computers. When you receive the email, open it and press "ctrl p" on your keyboard and it will print.

On Thursday afternoons, we will place pre-printed bulletins in the Messiah Lending Library (the box pictured in this article). It is located on H street outside the kitchen. Please feel free to stop by and pick one up if you do not have a computer or printer at home.

Please contact Tia Monsen if you have any questions.

Dear Church

Join us in reading ELCA pastor, Lenny Duncan's, book "  Dear Church: A Love Letter from a Black Preacher to the Whitest Denomination in the US  ." Messiah will be hosting zoom events on  July 8th  and  July 15th  at  7pm  to discuss Duncan's book and talk about what a commitment to racial justice means for us as a congregation and as individuals. On July 8th we will be discussing Parts 1 & 2 of the book and on July 15th we will be discussing Part 3. To join the zoom meeting click here. The meeting ID is 81797965940.

Duncan's powerful book is part manifesto, part confession, and all love letter. Dear Church offers a bold new vision for the future of his denomination (our denomination) and the broader mainline Christian community of faith. Dear Church rejects the narrative of 'church decline' and calls everyone-- leaders and laity alike-- to the front lines of the church's renewal through racial equality and justice.

Let’s Celebrate Traci!

Sunday, August 9, 2020 will be the beginning of our celebration for 30 years of Traci Vatne’s ministry. Our worship service at Messiah Lutheran Church in Auburn, WA will include many opportunities to recognize Traci. You will not want to miss tuning in online for this very special service.

We are inviting anyone who has been impacted by Traci’s ministry to send a card, letter, email, or video sharing how Traci has impacted you and your family. These should be sent by August 1 to CelebrateTraci@gmail.com. Or they may be sent to the church at: Messiah Lutheran Church, 410 H Street NE, Auburn, WA 98002.

If you would like to make a donation to a fund to purchase a gift to celebrate Traci’s ministry (and all the support that Bruce has provided over the years), please send a check to the church by August 1st. These funds will be provided to Traci so that she and Bruce can take a special trip somewhere for rest and relaxation!

Finally, we had hoped to have a large party to celebrate Traci’s ministry. However, right now, COVID-19 has put a wrench in our plans. We want to do the party at a time when EVERYONE can come and celebrate Traci’s ministry. So, we are postponing the party until it is safe to have everyone together for this special event. Traci and Bruce are remaining in our community and so delaying the party makes the most sense. Stay tuned for more details.

Engage

At Messiah we have made it one of our key priorities and values to engage in the community around us. Even in the midst of a pandemic, there are many ways for us to continue to live into that call. Each week I will provide a list of a couple ways we can continue to serve and support our community partners. If you have any questions or suggestions please let Savannah know!

ELCA Advocacy Action Center  - As members of the ELCA, we believe that we are freed in Christ to serve and love our neighbor. God uses our hands, through our direct service work and our voices, through our advocacy efforts, to restore and reconcile our world. ELCA advocacy works for change in public policy based on the experience of Lutheran ministries, programs and projects around the world and in communities across the United States. They work through political channels on behalf of the biblical values of peacemaking, hospitality to strangers, care for creation and concern for people living in poverty and struggling with hunger and disease.
