Dear Parents and Students:

Here are two important dates of particular interest to parents of graduating seniors and members of the Class of 2020.

Senior Parade: May 16, Saturday 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

On Saturday morning, May 16, which is the Class of 2020’s original graduation date, we will have a safe, informal, festive celebration on campus. Students will slowly drive around the track as we play music and use the public address system to recognize them, their parents, and the college/career they intend on attending/pursuing. We will have a picture of each senior displayed along the edge of the track so the seniors can see their classmates as they drive from the visitor’s “entrance” to the home “exit” side of the track.

Teacher volunteers will stand along the track and hold poster board signs with congratulatory and encouraging phrases as they wave to the seniors when they drive by. Students will not get out of their cars for this event. This will be a fun and festive celebration, and we will also distribute graduation regalia to the seniors while they are on campus. You will receive more detailed planning information about the Senior Parade at the end of next week.

Graduation: July 17, Friday 7:30 p.m.

Rain or shine, high school graduation will be held on Friday, July 17, and it will start at 7:30 p.m. Our primary venue is the football field with graduation “under the lights.” This setting will provide an atypical ceremony to conclude an atypical year. An outdoor evening ceremony will allow parents to spread out on the bleachers or in lawn chairs to maintain social distancing while avoiding the hottest part of the day. This event will be streamed online as well.

In the event of rain, the ceremony will be held in the church’s worship center. Although the worship center holds 1,300 people, if social distancing standards on July 17 are what they are today, we may need to limit the number of attendees in the worship center. If public health standards require us to do that, we will notify you well ahead of the ceremony’s date to assist you in your planning. We also have the capability to stream the event in various theaters located throughout the church plus online.

Please mark these important dates on your calendar; we are looking forward to having our students back on campus in a manner deemed safe by state and local officials!

With warm regards and in His service,
