May is a time for celebrations and gatherings. With graduations and vacations right around the corner, we are looking forward to the future.
Here at OED, we are thinking about the future as well. Thinking about the future of food - the F3 Tech Symposium will be May 30, at Frederick Community College. This year's theme is addressing the fact that 70 percent of the world will need more food by 2050 and how Maryland can lead the way. And then there is the future of women entrepreneurship - join us for May 20th for Women Rising: A Forum for Women Entrepreneurs.
We would also like to take a moment to congratulate two people special to economic development in Frederick County.
First, we would like to extend a heartfelt congratulations to our very own Heather Gramm, CEcD, assistant director of the Frederick County Office of Economic Development. She was named president of the Maryland Economic Development Association (MEDA) during the 2019 MEDA Annual Conference.
We also would like to congratulate one of our Frederick County business leaders, Bob Black, who was named 2019 MEDA Volunteer of the Year during the same conference. Bob is president and co-owner of Catoctin Mountain Orchard, and has supported both the agriculture industry and economic development throughout Maryland through his volunteerism.

Robert Black Named MEDA 2019 Volunteer of the Year
On April 29, Robert Black, President and Co-Owner of Catoctin Mountain Orchard, was named the 2019 Volunteer of the
Year by the Maryland Economic Development Association (MEDA).
Black's volunteerism reaches back to the late 1970s.

2019 NCI and FNLRC Technology Showcase
Register now for the third annual Technology Showcase on June 12! The 2019 Technology Showcase will again highlight technologies being developed at the NCI and Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research (FNLCR) to encourage startup company formation, technology licensing and collaborations.

e-End Hosts Business Leaders from Sri Lanka
On Thursday, May 3,
e-End
in Frederick hosted business leaders from Sri Lanka to learn more about waste management best practices. The delegation consisted of waste management experts who were in the United States from April 27 - May 9, 2019. The U.S. Department of Commerce selected e-End to be one of the companies to be visited because they are recognized as an industry leader.

Tesla Solar Project at the Frederick County Landfill
Frederick County has partnered with Tesla to develop a solar array at the Frederick County Landfill. The panels, which are being placed on top of a geosynthetic cap at one of the facility's closed sites, will produce up to 1.9 megawatts of power.

are the Top 50 CEOs highlighted this month.
The Top 50 CEO list includes criteria based on the CEO's individual responses on the following: Strategic leadership concepts, Significant growth under his or her leadership, Number of employees, Tenure, Company's turnover rate, Company's median salary, Number of nominations the CEO received and CEO's involvement in the community.

327 Acre Farm for Industrial Use - Total 3M Square feet build-out.
The City of Frederick, MD annexed 327 acres of agricultural land that is among the largest contiguous industrial zoned properties for sale in the Washington DC / Baltimore MD metro area. City annexation of the Renn Farm was approved in August, 2018 by the Frederick County Council. The zoning of the property is M-1 zoning which allows for a wide range of uses including manufacturing, storage, office, and some ancillary type businesses. The property also has an additional 60-acre parcel that will retain its agricultural zoning.
