In an effort to adhere to the directive from NC State Extension,  Onslow County 4-H has had to cancel or postpone our in-person 4-H activities, projects and events until further notice. Please look to our website and 4-H  facebook page for updates and online learning opportunities.



No Limits 4-H Club Goes Virtual
 
Each Monday, No Limits 4-H Club leader, Felicia Crabb, posts 4 activities for her club members to complete. Felicia hopes for her members to build knowledge by trying one or all of the activities as well as get them comfortable with presenting by having them submit a video explaining the activity for the rest of the club to view.

Virtual Week #1
 
Chicken - Tell us your chickens name and demonstrate the proper way to hold your chicken for a showmanship class. Be sure to explain what you're doing and why so those who don't know will learn.

 

 
 
Horse pattern - Complete the posted pattern to the best of your ability (lead line is allowed for Cloverbud if needed) be sure your horse is properly groomed and you're in proper attire to include your polo shirt. Can be ridden English or Western.
 
Lego robot- build your dream house out of Legos. Tell us what's inside and why you choose the design you did.

 

Outdoor fun- head outside and identify three living things in your yard. It can be a plant or animal.  Tell us what they are and what it needs to live and what would eat it.

 

 









4-H Online Re-Enrollment Continues

January 1st marked the beginning of 4H Online re-enrollment. Please take the time to update your 4H Online profile.  If you've previously created a profile in the 4H Online system, just log-on and select "Re-enroll for 2020". Remember that enrollment is a requirement for participation in 4-H activities, events, programs and trips.
 

4-H Starter Garden Kits

Onslow County 4-H teamed up with the Consumer Horticulture Agent, Ag Program Assistant, Extention Support Specialist and CED to create  "Starter Garden" kits. Each kit contained cucumber seeds, squash seeds, soil, peat pots and educational materials. Kits were advertised on the Onslow County Cooperative Extension and 4-H Facebook page. Onslow County Public Libraries served as distribution sites allowing dissemination throughout the county.
Over 300 "Starter Garden" kits were registered for and distributed to Onslow County youth.

4-H Virtual Chicken Showmanship Clinic


Thanks to everyone who participated in our virtual Chicken Showmanship Clinic. Our Agriculture & Livestock Agent, Melissa Huffman, lead participants through a virtual showmanship class in an effort to prepare 4-H Chicken Project participants for the Coastal Plains Chicken Show. This year's show will take place virtually on June 11, 2020. Video submissions for the Showmanship competition are due by May 29, 2020 for preliminary judging. Qualifying entries will compete in the district competition on June 11, 2020 via Zoom.
 
Project Books- The deadline for submission of chicken project books has been extended to May 29, 2020.
