Greetings Tucson NAWIC #122 and Friends!
Hope everyone is staying healthy during the Coronavirus Pandemic!
NAWIC Chapter #122 has had a Very Successful month! We started March out with our Amazing WIC Week activities. The WIC Week Kick off was an amazing event with so much talent gathered in one room. What an inspiring Event! If you have not gotten your brochure with information on the 20 Women of 2020, please check with the WIC Week Committee.
Ann Vargas, Joanna Buglewicz
and
Colleen Edwards
did an amazing job on this committee! Please let them know how much we appreciate them.
At the very same time as the WIC Week Kick Off,
Tracy Miller
represented NAWIC At the Cornerstone Awards Banquet. NAWIC was presented with a $4,000 check from Cornerstone to be deposited into the Shirley Dail Endowment Fund. We also raised over $1,000 for the Cornerstone Scholarship Fund. Please remember that NAWIC #122 is not allowed to directly present scholarships to our members or their families. However, this Cornerstone Scholarship Fund is allowed to present those funds. Cornerstone also presents scholarship to U of A CAPLA in the name of NAWIC.
In addition to the WIC Week Kick Off event, Habitat for Humanity hosted a piano bar evening on Friday the 6th. Then there was the Habitat for Humanity Women’s Build on Saturday the 7th. All in all, a very successful WIC Week.
Our membership meeting on the 11th was a very informative meeting with Noel Vizzo and Neal Eckel educating us on the Pre-Lien process as well as how to proceed if you are not paid.
We will reschedule our April Membership Meeting. Chapter meetings are very important to us. The presentation of the winners for our NEF Draft & Design competition and guest speaker, Dean Papajohn, from U of A will be rescheduled.
Please feel free to address the board with any concerns.
Wishing Everyone Health and Prosperity,
Sandy Lipe

Design Drafting Competition
Our chapter is proud to announce the upcoming
NAWIC Education Foundation’s Design Drafting Competition. The competition is designed to introduce students to the construction industry in a positive and challenging manner, to foster a self-worth, to build confidence in the participants, and to encourage mentoring programs between students, educators and the industry.
Their design problem this year is to create a Visitor Center for the USS Cod Submarine Memorial in Cleveland, Ohio along the North Coast Harbor. The design should consider use by large groups of school children (K-12) or clusters of adults from bus tours, singles and local families, visitors from abroad, current and former military members. The submarine itself houses most of the exhibits; however, the Visitors Center and the submarine should be extensions of one another to tell the story and honor its engineering marvel and the people that were a part of submarine history. Aesthetics and the treatment of materials should acknowledge the other recent buildings around the site. When designing, they are to think about the site, views of the harbor, placement with regards to entering and viewing the submarine and honoring this engineering marvel and the United States submariners. The national winner of the competition may be the conceptual designer for the actual build. How amazing that would be for the student? All parts of the space must comply with ADA accessibility requirements. This project is near and dear to our CADD chairwoman,
Jan Marshall's, heart as her Dad served in the Navy as a submariner for 20 years.
This year NAWIC Tucson Chapter #122 is proud to sponsor the Design Drafting Competition. We have six students from Canyon Del Oro High School participating under their instructor, Josh Ronstadt. We are seeking financial sponsors for the cash awards and other expenses of the competition such as the awards dinner. We hope to raise $1500 which includes $600 in prize money and would like each participant to leave the contest with gift certificates and merchandise. We would like to invite the participants and their parents as well as their instructor to the awards ceremony at our April dinner meeting. In addition, we would like to give our judges gifts for offering their time and expertise to the competition. The judging for the competition is being held this month and the prizes will be awarded at our April membership/dinner meeting. NAWIC Tucson Chapter #122 truly appreciates our supporters who help to foster education in our community and support the construction industry and NAWIC. Please contact me if you have any questions at all. We hope you will be able to help us this year financially with our project. Pleas click the links below for sponsorship information.
Please address any questions to our NEF Draft & Design committee:
