Financial Training & Tips for Caregivers

The Institute of Gerontology at Wayne State University announces a new, free resource for family caregivers. Are you worried that an older adult in your care is beginning to decline cognitively? Do you struggle with how to protect their financial health without stifling their independence? How do you uncover if the person you care for is a victim of scams or identity theft?

While many programs for caregivers address the emotional, physical and mental needs of the older person and the caregiver, one critical aspect of caregiving is often overlooked: financial health. OlderAdultNestEgg.com has a new Family & Friends section to help caregivers maintain the financial health of the people they care for. Developed under the leadership of  Dr. Peter Lichtenberg , the website is grant funded and free to use.

Narrated  trainings explain topics like dementia, having difficult conversations about money, and when to create a power of attorney. The site posts vetted resources and news alerts plus downloadable handbooks to improve financial literacy. A do-it-yourself assessment to determine a person's vulnerability to exploitation (called the Family & Friends Questionnaire) will soon be available. Financial health  is  caregiving health. Visit  olderadultnestegg.com  to strengthen and expand your caregiving skills.
