Update on Student Mask Project
Hello families of Bellevue High School!
As some of you may know, I have been trying to make protective gear and donate it to the medical staff that fight the COVID-19 virus on the front line. I asked the community of Bellevue High to help me in my efforts, and we were able to make 132 face shields and 72 face masks! Thank you to everyone that participated and helped donate the protective gear! Below are some pictures of the donations that have been provided to the UW Medical Center. Thank you!

SPRING SPORTS SENIORS 2020 - IN THEIR OWN WORDS!!
Hello Bellevue High School & BHS Community....in another effort to honor and celebrate our Senior Student Athletes this Spring, we have reached out to ALL of the individual Seniors and their parents who are participating in Athletics. We are asking that if students themselves would like to have a chance to comment on what being a student athlete means to them, any highlights or memories they'd want to share and any people that they'd want to thank have a chance to do so.
Senior Shout Outs - Girls Track and Field
Comments and thoughts written by Melantha Jenkins, Head Girls Track & Field Coach, and Assistant Coach Katy Howells
Katie Reid
Katie was one of the students who interviewed me for my coaching position. She is not only smart and a talented athlete, but also a natural leader. This is why I was not surprised to hear that she holds an elected position on ASB. Her peers and I value her opinions. She is a firecracker that will speak her mind and push for what she feel is right. The tremendous talents Katie has ranged so wide on the track that it was hard to decide what events she should do. This young lady would even go above and beyond to help coach high jump so her peers could have the opportunity to experience the event safe and correctly. I can't wait to see what the future has in store for her.
Amelia Simpson
Amelia may not be the tallest person in the room but her joyful smile and ginormous personality make her impossible to miss. Her positivity is absolutely contagious! Despite how much fun we're having, she always keeps a tight grip on reality, a huge sign that she is ready for the next step on life. She continually demonstrated self-control by understanding and listening to her body while training. She supported and uplifted her teammates in times that they it needed most, and if she couldn't be by their side participating, she was by their side encouraging. She was always present with a positive attitude. An attitude that I'm positive will help open many doors for her in the future.
In Their Own Words: Comments by Katie Reid, Class of 2020 Girls Track & Field
"I have been involved with basketball my whole life and was able to finish that season and was greatly looking forward to this track season. I can't tell you how excited I was every day to go to practice and see all of my teammates. Track season was my favorite time of the year. I was one of the only senior girl sprinters and the only jumper, but I never felt out of place on the track. I am so thankful for all that track brought me, the lessons, the friendships and so much more. I am thankful that it brought long jump into my life, something I became so passionate about. I was excited to compete with everyone this year and earn some medals and even though I am sad that it is over, I will be there cheering from the sidelines next year. Thank you Coach Jenkins and the rest of the coaching staff for always pushing me to be my best on the track and for your constant encouragement! I will miss you all."
Thank you Katie for your hard work, competitiveness and leadership through athletics!!! Good luck in all that you do!
Senior Shout Outs - Fastpitch Softball
Mason Murkar
3 year starter - Fr - Outfield, So/Jr - 3rd Base
2019 - 2nd team All Kingco
2019 - BHS Most Inspirational
Mason has been a strong and present leader not only of the Fastpitch diamond, but also within the halls of Bellevue High School. One of the standout aspects about who she is as a person is the "Natural Helper" mindset that she lives by. She is one of the few students who has the honor to care for BHS's beloved Steve Campbell as he makes his rounds in the mornings at BHS.
Thank you for your kind and caring leadership model. Also by showing the integrity it takes to earn success!!
Senior Shout Outs - Lacrosse
Comments from Coaches Welton, Whicker, Davidheiser, and the whole Bellevue Lacrosse Coaching Staff
It takes a special person to play lacrosse at Bellevue for the first time as a junior and be successful. Brandon is one of those special people. While he is a great athlete, his willingness to put himself out there and approach every obstacle without hesitation has been the catalyst for his success on the field. We're confident that inherent ability will also prove invaluable to his success off the field. Brandon, we are proud of you for putting yourself out there and achieving so much in such a short period of time. Never lose that fighting spirit!
In Their Own Words - Alex Ogbue, Boys Track & Field 2020
Alex Ogbue
"I moved to Bellevue high my junior year and decided I wanted to run track, something I had never done before, but I came to see that it was the best decision I could have made. Things like being the Kingco champs and going to state, to small things like hanging out before practice made track an irreplaceable part of high school for me. Someone asked why I would practice everyday rain or shine and in thinking about how to answer, I realized that I love it - because track gave me a chance not only to challenge myself but to learn from and challenge others. I can't say enough good things about my coach Tatum Taylor, who gave a chance to a newcomer, pushed me always to give my best, and went above and beyond to be there for all of us."
Be safe and well, Go Bellevue!!!

SENIORS
Dear Senior Parents,
With much changing amidst the COVID-19 virus, we want to keep you informed of changes regarding graduation events. While we recognize that the logistics of gathering in the traditional ways (prom, baccalaureate, senior breakfast, graduation, grad night) are suspended until deemed safe and approved by the Governor, we remain cautiously optimistic that there may be opportunity to celebrate our Seniors later this summer. This is a great opportunity for creativity, a re-focus on priorities,
and lifelong solidarity amongst the Class of 2020 that will come from weathering this time together. If your home is anything like ours, we vacillate between disappointment and resiliency, often on a daily basis. In those lower moments, we try to look forward to after high school plans and adventures and the promise of better days ahead.
As a parent committee, recognizing and celebrating our children's accomplishments is a top priority. We are regularly discussing and considering alternative options in conjunction with the school and students. Should the current stay at home orders be lifted before the end of the summer and we can plan a safe event that follows state and local guidelines, we are ready to quickly create an opportunity for Seniors to gather, be recognized and say goodbyes. If summer timing is not possible, we will consider alternative dates for a future celebration to take place at some point over the next year. Please encourage your Senior to fill out the post-Town Hall survey as we will use these results to help guide our planning.
The following three statements will anchor our parent-planned summer celebration decision-making, based on state and local guidance:
1. There are no bans on large group gatherings that would limit our ability to gather.
2. The gathering can take place by August 1 to avoid possible conflict with college and university schedules.
3. We determine we can meet a high standard for health and safety.
All three of these statements must be true for a parent-planned summer celebration to proceed. As we move through the planning process, we will keep you updated and provide opportunity to share your ideas. We acknowledge that whatever direction we take, the gathering will look and feel different than in past years and will require flexibility on all our parts. For those who purchased Grad Night tickets, we are working reimbursement options and procedures and there will be more details forthcoming.
In addition, we are actively pursuing ideas for publicly honoring our Seniors before the end of the school year in order to send a message of support but does not tempt them to gather.
Sincerely,
The 2020 Graduation Events Parent Committee
Co-Chairs, Melinda Eley and Leslie Feller

JUNIORS
Every year the junior class at BHS has a raffle to raise funds to lower the cost of senior events such as prom and graduation.
Our raffle includes: 4 Night Getaway in a villa at the Westin Los Cabos for 6 guests, Cabo restaurant giftcard, and $750 cash.
Our goal is to raise $30,000 by selling 2,000 raffle tickets for $15 each.
We still need a few more sellers to sell just 25 tickets each to achieve our goal! You may sell tickets to other BHS parents, co-workers, family members, or you may purchase them yourselves. You will have until the drawing on April 23 to sell them. We will provide email templates and marketing materials to help you sell.
We also really need parents to buy tickets! THANK YOU TO ALL OF OUR FABULOUS SELLERS BELOW! Please contact one if you would like to purchase.
