BC’s redesigned curriculum provides teachers with flexibility in creating learning environments that are relevant, engaging, and outdoors. Sally Zryd , Principal, and Dave Conroy , Vice-Principal at Aberdeen Elementary introduced teachers Sarah Kruisselbrink, Stacey Kaczur and Shelley Marsh who presented several place-based learning opportunities their students experienced last year through an Innovation Grant.

REPORTS FROM SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS
Task Force on Student Safety
Implementation of the recommendations designed by the Superintendent's Task Force on Student Safety to help and protect students who face sexual misconduct in schools is now underway. The recommendations have resulted in new District procedures and programming, and are leading to improved staff training and educational programs for students which will begin this fall.

School Fees Report
The revised curriculum for grades 11 and 12 has led to minor changes in the course fee structure. Many courses were renamed, and some were eliminated. Overall, there was a fee reduction for six courses with the delisting of outdated Board Authority Authorized courses. The Board approved the minor fee increases to reflect the rising cost of supplies, including fees for Foods, Woodwork and Photography courses.
Mental Health Literacy Strategy
The Action Plan submitted to the Ministry of Education on March 15, 2019 received a one-time grant of $31,000 to support mental health programming in schools. This funding is a catalyst for an integrated and sustainable mental health infrastructure in the District that will include support for an additional school and family consultant.
