#1 Home Show Home Run
WOW! This weekend’s Spring Home & Patio Show was a big success. It was a great opportunity for both exhibitors to showcase their products and services as well as for consumers to start that next home improvement project. Highlights included presentations from master organizer Jennifer Phelps, celebrity cooking demonstrations, “do it yourself” classes from Rose Alley Vintiques and much more. One exhibitor commented, “This was probably the busiest Home Show in the last 3 years.” One of the attendees said, “We had a great time. The Show was even better than last time. Great energy by all the participants.”

Special thanks to our sponsors: Kinetico Water Systems, Long Realty Mortgage, Title & Insurance, Mattress Firm and Russett Southwest Heating & Air Conditioning.
#2 A Huge "Thank You" to our Volunteers
A huge "thank you" goes out to everyone who volunteered at the Home Show this past weekend.

Volunteers are critical to the success of the show and we truly appreciate all that they do. We hope you will consider volunteering at the next show.

A special "thank you" to Erin Fitzgerald and Ginger Kneup for helping to coordinate all of the volunteer duties!
#3 Proposed Clean Water Act Rule Significant to Industry
In February the Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of the Army published for public comment a proposed rule defining the scope of waters federally regulated under the Clean Water Act (CWA). The proposed rule is intended to increase CWA program predictability and consistency by increasing clarity as to the scope of “waters of the United States” federally regulated under the Act.

The scope of the CWA, particularly over marginally “aquatic” features such as desert washes and arroyos is of vital concern to our members. In connection with developing and improving land, our members regularly construct streets and roads, install utility lines and other related improvements. In many cases, these activities cannot be conducted without impacting desert washes and
other drainage features.

In light of the significance of the proposed rule, SAHBA and the Home Builders Association of Central Arizona (HBACA) have submitted detailed comments. Click here to view the comments.
#4 Shawn Cote Appointed to NAHB Land Use Committee
SAHBA’s Government Affairs Director, Shawn Cote, has been appointed to NAHB’s Land Use Subcommittee. This subcommittee is charged with identifying and evaluating key emerging land development issues and developing research and advocacy strategies and resources to address them.

The Subcommittee is currently working on a myriad of issues and concerns, including innovative infrastructure financing strategies, creating diversity in housing to increase affordability; and post-tax reform issues affecting land development. The Subcommittee meets three times each year at NAHB’s regularly scheduled leadership meetings.
#5 Legislative Update: Transportation Funding Bill Moves Forward
An opportunity for a major investment in our roads took an important step forward last week. House Bill 2109 – which was signed by Governor Ducey - allows the Regional Transportation Authority to develop a comprehensive, county-wide plan for new roads, road repair, transit and more. The plan would be based on an increase of sales tax from the current $0.005 to $0.01. Following completion of the plan, it would be up to the voters to approve the plan to put it in place. SAHBA actively worked in support of the bill.
