Jones, Judy E.
(Aug 28, 1955 - Sep 22, 2019)
Judy went home with Jesus after a long struggle with primary progressive aphasia in Eureka, MO. Judy was born Judy Elaine Schlemper on Aug 28, 1955 in Wildwood, MO to the late Ivan and Leola Schlemper (nee Krueger). She grew up with two brothers, Leon Schlemper and the late Gary Wells (Martha Wells). Despite her many accomplishments, her most proud achievement was her three children with Douglas Jones: Dawn Jones- Goldstein (David Goldstein), Karen Mayfield-Jones (Dustin Mayfield-Jones), and Stephen Jones (Rebecca Jones). Judy is survived by five grandchildren: Daniel, Michael, Preston, Braydon, and Skylar Jones. She was a dear friend to Margaret Whybrew-Duvall, Fay Parrot, and countless others. She was a dear cousin to many.
Judy was the first girl in her family to graduate college, and the education of her children was of upmost importance to her. Sometimes working three jobs at a time, Judy made sure that her children grew up in a good school district and made it through both undergraduate and graduate studies. Today all three of her children are professionals well respected in their fields.
Judy worked as a teacher in several capacities including gifted education, but she really felt her calling at St. Louis Public Schools where she worked to write curriculum for the district and ensure that the needs of the most at-risk students were met. Judy was passionate about social studies, Kids Voting, and civil rights. How ironic that she spent her final years fighting for her own rights.
After years of service to teaching children, she worked to revitalize homes in low income areas. Judy was also an avid volunteer helping with Girl Scouts, Sunday School, the Hydrocephalus Association WALK, her churches (St. Johns UCC, Bethel UMC, and Parkway UCC), and the City of Wildwood.
Judy’s great loves were her family, her late dog Ernie, and the natural beauty of creation. May her memory be a blessing to all of us.
Per her wishes, a memorial service will be held at Victorian Gardens in Eureka, MO on 06 Oct 2019 at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to the National Association to Stop Guardian Abuse.
