LIGHT

"I have come as a light to shine in this dark world, so that all who put their trust in me will no longer remain in the dark."
John 12:46

There is definitely darkness in this world and we are seeing plenty of it; sometimes up close and personal. Darkness takes many forms. The danger of ill health for ourselves and those we love is often foremost in our minds these days. But other darknesses loom not too far off either, like: fear, isolation, uncertainty, worry and frustration. But we have a light that shines brighter than any darkness - Jesus Christ!

Where can we find evidence of this light? Lots of places, actually. Oddly enough, the increased number of TV commercials is showing some of this light. More and more, the emphasis is on compassion, love, caring, support and encouragement. Some TV news shows are highlighting acts of kindness and goodness that are being shared in communities. In our own neighborhoods, when the weather permits, people are out walking and stopping to chat at safe distances or waving "hello". On-line, people are sharing jokes, ways to cope and ways to entertain themselves and others; especially children. There is an outpouring from individuals and businesses to help those in need. All of these are evidence of the light of Christ at work in this world! It is beautiful!

How wonderful it is that Jesus gave us these words to help us, "all who put their trust in me will no longer remain in the dark". How simple a path from the dark into the light; just trust Him. And when we focus our attention on Jesus, the light of the world, He will help us to see all the little lights going on right now that are little reflections of His great light.

Heavenly Father,
Thank you for the Light that you gave us for the darknesses in this world, Your Son, Jesus. Help us to always see His light shining through in all the dark places we encounter in our lives. And, long after this disease has become nothing more than a long-forgotten memory, may all these little "lights" continue to shine in this world and give You glory. Amen.
