April 28, 2020

Dear Monroe County Schools Students, Parents, and Families,

With Governor Brian Kemp's earlier announcement that all Georgia public schools will be closed for the remainder of this school year, Monroe County Schools developed an end of school plan that was shared with staff, students, and parents on April 15, 2020. As part of this plan, our alternative learning days for students will end on Friday, May 1, 2020. The remainder of the school year, May 4, 2020- May 22, 2020, will be designated time for collecting make-up work, completing credit repair, turning in completed work, picking up personal items from school, and returning of print items and digital equipment.

We will use the next few weeks to accomplish these tasks. We appreciate everyone's cooperation in advance as we work to finish out this school year. See below for important upcoming dates:

May 4, 2020 - May 8, 2020 - Teachers will be able to work in classrooms at each school. School level administrators will develop a daily schedule that minimizes the number of staff in the building at a given time. Staff will follow safety guidelines provided by the state and our local health department. Schools will contact staff members regarding this schedule.

May 11, 2020 - May 22, 2020 - Students/Parents will be able to visit schools to turn in work, digital equipment, and retrieve personal belongings. Each school will develop a schedule and protocol that will be shared with parents and students that outlines specifics for this process. These schedules and protocols will serve to minimize the number of students/parents in the building at a given time. Again, we will strictly follow safety guidelines provided by our state and local health department. Please note that teachers will not be on site during this time.

Even though this has been an extremely trying time for all citizens, we are so proud of our students, parents, and teachers for working together to make this school year (and alternative learning days) a huge success. We have all learned new lessons about teaching and learning over the past month. Hopefully, these new lessons will serve us well moving forward.

Grab and Go Meals continue on Mondays and Wednesdays (11 a.m. to 1 p.m.) through Wednesday, May 20 at Samuel E. Hubbard Elementary School.

Stay tuned for information about the upcoming 2020-2021 school year. Thanks for your continued support of Monroe County Schools!
