Staff Update: Daria Rydzak Leaving Serve Wisconsin

Daria Rydzak, Serve Wisconsin's Community Engagement Specialist (and editor of this newsletter) is leaving us to pursue her MBA at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.  Her last day will be May 18, 2018.

Daria's contributions to Serve Wisconsin have been outstanding.  She organized the first National Service Summits in five communities across the state.  Her tireless outreach efforts to nonprofits in local communities ensured each Summit was well attended and has resulted in numerous nonprofits interested in starting an AmeriCorps program or hosting an AmeriCorps member.

Daria has also been instrumental in working to increase the awareness of AmeriCorps in Wisconsin by developing and implementing social media campaigns and public service announcements.

Daria will be sorely missed at Serve Wisconsin for both her work ethic and good humor, but we know with her intelligence and intellectual curiosity she will be and exceptional MBA student.  We wish her well in all future endeavors.
Member Reflection: Hawthorn McCracken
AmeriCorps Member with DPI Farm to School

After a week of classes with the entire 5th grade of Jefferson East Elementary, we took a field trip to a local CSA, Meadow Farm in Johnson Creek.

Joy Leisen and Matt Kelly gave us a tour of their fields, packing area, and flocks. They use a chicken tractor to fertilize their fields, and have up to 300 hens during laying season! We got to meet some of their resident sheep, and the kids helped to seed flats of scallions. Meg and Mike Kelly, the owners, were present with their lovely pup Bandit to answer questions and meet our group. We were featured in the Jefferson Daily Union and the Watertown papers! The kids loved learning about how High Meadow used their chicken tractor, compos
t pile, and the CSA structure to get delicious organic food to their customers.
