UBC Asian Studies professor and the CJR's former Co-Director, Professor Joshua S. Mostow, and Asian Studies Ph.D. student, Kurtis Hanlon published their co-edited essay collection An “Ise monogatari” Reader: Contexts and Receptions this month with Professor Yamamoto Tokurō of Kansai University (emeritus).

Call for Project Collaborators

Professor Colleen Laird (UBC Asian Studies) has launched a Japanese Women Directors Project, a public-facing platform that will feature a variety of voices and visions showcasing the works of women working in Japanese film industries. She is currently inviting collaborators who might be interested in participating.

A Virtual Tour with Visual Descriptions for People with Sight Loss

MOA is partnering with VocalEye, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to making public programming accessible for the blind and partially sighted, to offer an online tour of A Future for Memory: Art and Life after the Great East Japan Earthquake.

This slow-looking virtual tour will include highlights from A Future for Memory with visual descriptions for people with sight loss. This VocalEye Almost Live Zoom event is hosted by Amy Amantea, a member of the blind/low vision community, and VocalEye executive director, Steph Kirkland. The event will include a post-tour conversation and opportunity for Q + A with exhibition curator Fuyubi Nakamura.

MOA's latest virtual event with Atsunobu Katagiri, a featured artist in A Future for Memory: Art and Life After the Great East Japan Earthquake, and Fumihiko Futakami, Curator of the Minamisōma City Museum. The conversation is facilitated by MOA Curator Fuyubi Nakamura and followed by a live Q & A with Atsunobu Katagiri (in English). Vancouver Art Gallery’s Interim Chief Curator/Associate Director, Diana Freundl and UBC student Yuval Kehila join the Q & A session.
