Bayway oil refinery, Linden - waterways surrounding the heavy industry of northern New Jersey are in need of remediation
Public Question 2: Environmental Damage Fund
By Kristina Necovska, GSWA Membership Associate

The amendment in question is called the "Natural Resource Damages Constitutional Amendment". Its aim is to dedicate all moneys won in legal cases by the State of New Jersey to a special fund, commonly referred to as a "lockbox measure," which will only be used to remediate and repair environmental damage.  If approved, any money from environmental contamination cases will  only  be used to repair, replace and restore damaged natural resources, preserve healthy resources, and pay legal costs of environmental contamination claims.

Your question this election day:
"Do you approve amending the Constitution to dedicate all moneys collected by the State relating to natural resource damages in cases of contamination of the environment? The moneys would have to be used to repair, restore, replace, or preserve the State's natural resources. The moneys may also be used to pay legal or other costs incurred by the State in pursuing its claims. "   ... read more

See "Saving The Great Swamp: Battle to Defeat the Jetport" Documentary November 15

Winner - Best Documentary at the 2017 New Jersey Film Festival!

This inspiring one-hour documentary makes its primetime premiere on NJTV November 15 at 8:00 p.m.  Narrated by Blythe Danner, Director Scott Morris takes us on a journey through the 9-year struggle to preserve the Great Swamp, and defeat plans to build a 10,000 acre jetport on the Great Swamp. It's a story about how a grassroots movement that started in a local high school took on big business and government and won. The battle to protect the Great Swamp is now considered a model for environmental activism today. (Check your local listings for the NJTV channel.)

"A truly astonishing and entertaining history lesson, and a timeless cautionary tale for anyone concerned about what big business and government can do when nobody's watching."      -Bill Westhoven, Reporter, USA Today Network
