MASSACHUSETTS WHITE RIBBON DAY CAMPAIGN
Jane Doe Inc (JDI), the Massachusetts Coalition Against Sexual Assault an
d Domestic Abuse, first created the Massachusetts White Ribbon Day Campaign in 2007 to raise awareness and highlight the roles of men and boys in ending gender-based violence.
Today, JDI has significantly deepened and expanded the focus of the White Ribbon Day Campaign, developing the #ReimagineManhood frame for discussing gender-based violence and the role of men and boys in the context of broader discussions around gender equity, racial justice and healthy masculinity.
A Shift in Focus
Through three different youth programs, we empower girls, foster healthy dating relationships, and engage boys and girls in violence prevention, with an emphasis on reaching students in upper elementary school through high school. Last year, programming was provided to over 1,100 students in our local school districts. The White Ribbon Breakfast gives us the opportunity to focus on the importance of prevention and the essential role that boys and men play. The breakfast raises funds that are crucial to continue this important work.
These programs educate and engage girls and boys in conversations about consent, respect and responsibility, opening the dialog to talk openly about the issues of bullying, racism and how we can band together to erase the negative culture that normalizes abuse.
While 100% of the proceeds from the White Ribbon Breakfast usually fund our youth prevention programming in local area schools, given the current reality of COVID-19, we are also asking for fundraising help with current survivor needs. This virus is impacting situations of domestic violence on many levels, in many layers. Survivors are currently facing isolation, anxiety and increased risk and need access to free and confidential services provided by the Jeanne Geiger Crisis Center, including safety planning, counseling, legal services, and support with the cost of living expenses, including food and other necessities.
The Virtual Program
Our live event kicks off at 7:30 AM. You will hear from our CEO Suzanne Dubus and have the opportunity to participate in a live Q&A with her before you head over to our website to hear from our other White Ribbon speakers, including:
RaKim "RahK" Lash from A CALL TO MEN - a violence prevention organization and respected leader on issues of manhood, male socialization and its intersection with violence, and preventing violence against all women and girls. RahK is a leader, educator and mentor in higher education, and attributes his career direction to the influence and impact of other Student Affairs professionals throughout his personal and professional life.
He believes every human is capable of good and can use their platform to influence social change. RahK is committed to trying, failing and learning to succeed while sharing personal narratives to empower others. With a focus on equity and inclusion, his training experience includes engaging college students, high school and middle school boys, and fraternity men.

$1,000 - Provides critical support to nearly 140 callers on our 24-hour crisis hotline
$500 - Funds two sessions of the "Mask You Live In" student training for boys
$350 - Provides supplies for a year-long STEAM Program for girls,
to be implemented in the Fall
$250 - Financial relief and assistance for groceries, gas, and other essentials
for survivors impacted by COVID-19
