Permit Free Garage Sale Weekend - Friday, October 11 through Sunday October 13.   Residents can use this opportunity to host a garage/yard sale a nd avoid the normal fee that is required.  As an added bonus incentive to participate, and to help your sale be successful, the City will help promote your sale for  FREE on our website.  You can even list what types of items you are selling to bring interested buyers right to you. City Offices Closed in Observance of Columbus Day - All City Offices will be closed on Monday, October 14 in observance of Columbus Day.  This includes the 18th District Court.  Trash pick up will not be affected by the holiday.

Scheduled Upcoming Civic Meetings - Residents are invited to attend the upcoming City meetings. Below is a list of the meetings with their date, time and location: 
  • Housing Commission Meeting will take place on Tuesday, October 15, at 6:30 p.m. at Jefferson Barns Community Vitality Center, 32150 Dorsey.  Please click here to see agenda.

Commodities Distribution at Jefferson Barns Community Vitality Center - on Thursday, October 17,  from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at 32150 Dorsey Road.  This is only for Westland residents living north of Michigan Avenue.  This month the distribution is frozen pork patties, green beans, tuna, split peas, orange juice, sliced potatoes, pinto beans and possible additional items.  The commodities hotline is 734-595-0366.  Please contact Deb Richardson at 734-793-9390 with any questions.

Inspire Theater Presents:  Young Frankenstein: The Musical - October 18, 19, 20, 25, 26, 27  November 1, 2, & 3 at 7:30 p.m. Westland Center for the Arts is located at 33455 Warren Road. Young Frankenstein, Grandson of the infamous Victor Frankenstein, Frederick Frankenstein inherits his family's estate in Transylvania.  With the help of a hunchbacked sidekick, Igor and a leggy lab assistant, Inga.  Frederick finds himself in the mad scientist shoes of his ancestors.  PG -13 not suitable for all ages. Friday Night Movie -The William P. Faust Public Library will host their Friday night movie on  Friday, October 18,  at 6123 Central City Parkway, in Meeting Rooms A and B.  This week's movie is Yesterday and is rated PG-13.  Doors will open at 6:00 p.m. and the movie will start at 6:15 p.m. Snacks/refreshments are provided (donations are accepted and appreciated).  Please visit the library website at www.westland.lib.mi.us for more information.

Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day - Get rid of hazardous household materials the safe way this Saturday, October 19.  Wayne County is holding a free drop-off for residents to dispose of hazardous materials to ensure they are processed properly and not harming the environment.  The drop-off will be held from 8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. at Wayne County Community College, 21000 Northline Road, Taylor.  For more information, call the Wayne County Resource Recovery Coordinator at 734-326-3936.

Jefferson Barns Community Vitality Center Harvest Festival -  Saturday, October 19th from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Come out and enjoy the feeling of Fall and see the many different scarecrows promoting businesses, organizations, groups or families.  There will be pumpkin painting, lunch, a petting farm, trick or treating and pony rides, plus more fun-filled activities.  This event is sponsored by the Norwayne Community Citizens Council.  This event is FREE and will be held at Jefferson Barns Community Vitality Center, 32150 Dorsey Street. 

3rd Annual Mall-O-Ween Spooktacular - Enjoy the Trick or Treat trail and activities.  This event is happening on October 19, from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. at
Westland Shopping Center.  The event is FREE and open to the public.  Children 12 and under are welcome to dress in costume. There will be bounce houses & inflatable slides, face painting, balloon twisting, trick or treating & airbrush tattoos.  There will a craft table, games, music and much more.
