Hope everyone are coping well. ACE Tennis together with Cedar Springs Club are planning to organize a few UTR tournaments in December. Tournament info will be posted soon on the ACE website.

Be aware that we have regular Health inspector visits, which helps us stay safe, so please remind players and parents to be cooperative and responsible and follow club Covid
protocols strictly.

As usual, if you have any questions or concerns please contact me.

MINI TENNIS TEAM
From Head Coach Anna Momot
amomot@acetennis.ca

The Mini Tennis Team starts each week with previous knowledge in mind. This week the kids were learning the "approach shot." The little players learned to identify the
difference between a regular shot and an approach shot. Before hitting the ball, they had to identify the shot and say it out loud. Players were practicing the technical performance of the approach shot, and their tennis skills are growing. We are still working on serve and return, and they are now trying to serve with full motion. Of course, it's not an easy task, but coach Kirill and I see progress in each practice!

FUTURES
I love seeing how close all of the kids are getting! They come on court and manage to get all of the lines and balls set up for themselves, and seem to be helping one
another succeed each class. Let's make sure we fully understand each exercise before we begin, sometimes I catch the players confused on the drill. Other than that, I am lucky to have such a nice group of kids! "
CHAMPIONS
After the tournament this weekend, I saw that some of the players still struggled with controlling deep heavy balls. We focused on the movement required to be able to hit these balls and then what shot to hit afterwards. We have still been talking a lot about rhythm and I can see the players starting to get the idea. Let's make sure we remember the content that was worked on in the past cycles, so that we can use it to help us improve even further!
U12 PROVINCIAL TEAM / U12 INTERNATIONAL
From Head Coach Brandon Alguire
brandon@acetennis.ca

We have now completed 3 weeks of the current cycle on Using Variation to Disrupt the Opponent. This week we focused a lot on hitting an attacking ball from 3/4 court. The idea with this shot is that once the players use their variation (high ball to push opponent back) effectively they will earn an attacking ball in order to take control of the point.
The players needed a lot of technical work on this skill, therefore we did a lot of feeding to train this skill. Hopefully next week we will be able to train both shots into by doing patterns of hitting high and then stepping in to attack.

We also continued to work on the serve and volley and the footwork associated with this. The players have learned the steps to this now and I fully expect that when we are practicing it, they will do the movement exactly how they’ve been taught. The coaches spent too much time this week re-explaining the movement because many of the players weren’t focused on doing it properly while practicing it.

Keep an eye out for more inter-club tournaments coming up around Christmas time.

U16 PROVINCIAL TEAM / U16 INTERNATIONAL
From Head Coach Jay Barlow
jay@acetennis.ca

A solid week of training for this group as we worked on our ability to attack using some slice variations and improving the forehand drive. Looking to move forward and intercept balls when the opponent is in trouble will continue to need repetition next week. Building on our theme of variation, the players continued to mix in serve and volley in point pay situations with good success. Trying to embrace weaknesses and having the desire to work on them is key to improving these skills.
NATIONAL TEAM / U14-U18 INTERNATIONAL
From Head Coach Mike Hall
mikehall@acetennis.ca

The National International Team completed week 3 of our current cycle. We worked this week on increasing the speed of our rally in order to throw off the timing of our opponent when at the baseline. For the transition game, we worked on our decision making of when to approach with a drive vs a slice as well as when to approach cross court versus down the line.
Finally, we worked a lot on the serve and volley aspect of the game,, the psychology behind it, as well as the technical skills of the footwork and volley.

Players are encouraged to do some extra rolling and stretching at the end of the training sessions or when at home. Some players are having some minor issues with their body and the extra attention on this will help them to stay healthy.

ACE will be hosting some “in house” tournaments and information on this will be posted on our slack channel as well.
