Red Cliff News & Updates
Red Cliff, Bayfield School Increase Collaborations
Red Cliff and the Bayfield School District have increased collaborations to ensure a safe learning atmosphere for students as the district returns to in-person learning for the 2021-22 school year.

Red Cliff Tribal Leadership is meeting monthly with Bayfield School District Superintendent Beth Paap to discuss the needs of tribal youth attending the district. Paap is a Red Cliff Tribal Member and is beginning her tenure as the district’s Superintendent after serving in an interim role last year.

“Reinstating these discussions and partnerships with the school district are so important for ensuring our youth’s needs are being met while they are in school,” said Red Cliff Chairman Christopher Boyd. “Especially considering our Tribal youth make up a significant portion of the district’s student population, we are thankful and determined to keep working together to benefit our future leaders and our next generations.”

The first of these meetings took place last week on September 9, and future meetings are scheduled for the second Thursday of every month. The goal of these meetings is to bring the Red Cliff Tribal Council together with the Bayfield School District to ensure a healthy partnership between the Band and the District while working towards a learning environment that benefits all students.

The district works directly with the Red Cliff Health Division and Red Cliff’s Pediatrician – Dr. Darling. The district has decided to continue its mask mandate for students and staff with the goal of keeping in-person learning a possibility. After the struggles many faced with remote learning last school year, this partnership is vital to ensuring students’ educational and social-emotional needs are being met.

"As a Red Cliff Tribal Member and educator I am honored to continue supporting a healthy and culturally rich academic partnership with the Tribe's departments, programs, and divisions," said Paap. "We are stronger together. I look forward to my monthly meetings with Chairman Boyd so that we can keep our youths' future at the forefront of all we do."

Bayfield School District updates can be found on the district’s website at www.bayfield.k12.wi.us or on the district’s Facebook page @BayfieldSchDist.

Health & Wellness
Red Cliff Is Rockin' It To Community Immunity
Herd Immunity is the resistance to the spread of a contagious disease within a population that results if a sufficiently high proportion of individuals are immune to the disease, especially through vaccination. We like to call this “Community Immunity." Community immunity protects those that are unable to receive the vaccine – DO YOUR PART TO PROTECT OUR COMMUNITY!

The Red Cliff initial goal to reach “Community Immunity” was 70%. We have surpassed that and set our next goal at 80%.

The Red Cliff Health Center will continue to offer walk-in Covid-19 vaccine clinics – approximately one per month. Red Cliff currently offers all three vaccines: Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson. You can call us at (715)779-3707 to schedule a vaccine.
September: Gynecologic Cancer Awareness
Women should start pap smear screenings at age 21. Between the ages of 21-29, women whose pap smears are normal only need to repeat testing every three years. At age 30 and over women should have testing for the human papillomavirus (HPV) with their Pap smear. Between the ages of 30-65, women whose pap smears and HPV screening are normal only need to repeat testing every five years.

What is a PAP smear?
A pap smear is a procedure in which a small brush or spatula is used to gently remove cells from the cervix so they can be checked under a microscope for cervical cancer or cell changes that may lead to cervical cancer.

What is HPV?
HPV is the most common sexually transmitted infection (STI). There are many different types of HPV. Some types of HPV can cause health problems including genital warts and cancers.

If you are due for a pap smear and/or HPV screening and feel you cannot receive one due to lack of health insurance, you may be eligible for the Wisconsin Well Woman Program:

Wisconsin Well Woman Program (WWWP) provides preventive health screening services to women with little or no health insurance coverage.
Well Woman pays for mammograms, Pap tests, cervical cancer screenings, multiple sclerosis testing for high-risk women, and certain other health screenings.
Covered services are available from participating health care providers at no cost to Well Woman clients.

There is no premium, co-payment, or deductible for the Well Woman Program.
You are eligible if:
·        You are a woman aged 45 through 64
·        Your income is within the programs guidelines
·        You do not have health insurance, or the insurance you have doesn’t cover routine check-ups and screening, or you are unable to pay the deductible or co-payment.

Please call the Red Cliff Community Health Center to schedule your pap 715-779-3707.
