Dear Clients and Friends,

CHANGE.... There is change taking place everywhere these days. This issue is full of wonderful new programs and opportunities. If you know of others, please feel free to send those to us to share with our families and professionals.

There are also a multitude of workshops and webinars coming up. Please feel free to take advantage of them. We have had some lively discussions in our Retiring for 3 sessions. Thanks to all those families who joined us.

Hopefully the rain is going to subside! I don't know about you, but I'm feeling a bit waterlogged! It seems like it is raining everywhere I go and I'm looking forward to the upcoming Memorial Day Holiday with some sunshine. I wish you all a wonderful holiday weekend with family and friends. What are your plans? I welcome hearing about your weekend.

Students With Intellectual Disabilities Want Inclusive Graduation

More than 6,000 signatures have been collected on an online petition by a University of Colorado at Colorado Springs student with Down syndrome calling for allowing students with intellectual disabilities who earn certificates to walk with students who earn degrees at commencement ceremonies.

"Every student deserves to have the same opportunities as their friends and classmates," UCCS junior Nick Harmon states on his change.org petition seeking supporters to "advocate for inclusiveness and equality on campus." Click here to read more...

Neighborhood Under Construction For Those With Special Needs

In what developers say is a first, an entire neighborhood of brand-new homes is set to hit the market that is specifically designed for adults with developmental disabilities.

The development called Luna Azul is located in Phoenix. A model home and the neighborhood clubhouse and pool are slated to open in May, while the remainder of the 30 houses are on track to be completed by the end of the year. Click here to read more...

Ingenuity & Teamwork Change a Toddler's Life

At an age when most children are careening across the living room, 2-year-old Cillian was stuck, held back by a genetic condition that delays his physical and cognitive develo pment and a Catch-22 requirement from his family's insurance provider.

The robotics team at Farmington High School in Minnesota took up the challenge and solved the problem by using a combination of customized technology, teenage enthusiasm, and compassion. Click here to read more about this feel good story!

SeaWorld Becoming More Autism-Friendly

Joining its sister parks, SeaWorld Orlando is now a certified autism center, a move that's meant to make the theme park more accessible to people with disabilities, the company said this month.

SeaWorld's new certification follows behind Aquatica Orlando and Discovery Cove, the company's other two parks in Orlando that also recently said they were more autism-friendly.
