"Then he said to Thomas, 'Put your finger here and see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it in my side. Do not doubt but believe.' Thomas answered him, 'My Lord and my God!'"
|
- John 20:27-28
|
When Thomas reached out and touched Jesus, it was a conversion moment for him. He had known Jesus in his life and ministry, but having witnessed Jesus' death, Thomas had doubted the reports that Jesus had appeared alive again. The reality of the resurrection left no room. Thomas couldn't deny that it was Jesus after he saw the wounds and he proclaimed that Jesus is in fact our Lord and our God.
While this is an intriguing and beautiful story, the Gospel goes on to name the reality that you and I won't have the chance to reach out and put our hands in Jesus' hands and side as evidenced in the next verse: "Jesus said to him, 'Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have come to believe.'" Jesus wants us to know that what he has done is our Good News, and desires for us to believe this hopeful message. Jesus came into the world to save us and to tie us to himself for us.
The message of Easter is a massage of surprise. I pray that as we enter more deeply into this season over the next few weeks, you will allow yourself to continually be surprised by the same proclamation we share every year. It can be hard to be surprised by something you have known, proclaimed, sung about, and celebrated year after year, but take a moment to let these words resonate and reverberate: Alleluia, Christ is risen! He is risen indeed, Alleluia!
See you in Church,

Take Stock in Our Youth
|
Take Stock in Our Youth
Today, our youth are ordinary kids doing extraordinary things through the power of the Holy Spirit. Tomorrow, they will be our country's citizens and leaders. How can we, as a community of faith, help these youth live out the vision of Holy Spirit.
Each summer, our youth embark upon Mission trips. This year, all of our youth missioners will be working right here in Houston continuing with Harvey relief projects with Episcopal Strong Mission Trip and traveling to Costa Rica to work with our companion diocese.
While not all of us have the time or energy to accompany the youth,
you too can be a part of these missions
. Will you prayerfully consider supporting our youth through purchasing Mission Trip Stock Certificates?
As a Stock Holder, you will receive periodical emails updating you on the Youth Missioners (what is happening on a Mission trip and their experiences after they have completed their mission trip) and you will be invited to a stock holder event. You will also have the option to receive your own Stock Holder t-shirt. Your name will also be printed on the back of the mission trip shirts because "Stock Holders have our Back."
Please consider being a part of our summer experience on the mission field by purchasing stock in us as we step out "... to model service in the name of Jesus.
