What is an 'Inclusion Rider,' Anyway?
At the 90th Annual Academy Awards earlier this month, Best Actress winner Frances McDormand sent audiences to Google in droves with a buzz-worthy term many at home, and the ceremony, were unfamiliar with: "Inclusion Rider."
Since then, many have learned that this contractual clause requires film and television producers to hire actors and crew whose gender, race, sexual orientation, and physical abilities are representative of the projects being filmed.
In less than two weeks time, prominent producers and celebrities such as Matt Damon, director Paul Feig, and "Black Panther" star Michael B. Jordan, have vowed to make inclusion riders part of their production companies.
