August, 2021
Message From Lisa

Welcome August, the last month of summer. The flower of August is the poppy. A funny anniversary in August is August 24th which is Pluto Demoted Day and it marks the day in 2006 when Pluto was declared to be a dwarf planet rather than a true planet.

Most importantly for those of us with school age children, August is National Back-To-School Month. As a Mom of three teenagers, I am holding on to these memories of the first day of school because I am running out of them. I have always cherished lining the three of them up for back-to-school photos on the first day of school.

I have a bit of apprehension around the kids going back to school because the Delta Variant is making COVID numbers soar again. I worry that we will be back in lock down again in the Fall. Fingers crossed this will not be the case.

My hope is that we will soon have an FDA fully tested and approved vaccine so that all Americans will feel safe about getting the vaccine. I am hoping that we turn this COVID monster into something as common as the flu and the vaccine as common as the flu vaccine.

Until then, I encourage everyone to follow the latest CDC guidelines and wear masks indoors, even if fully vaccinated. Starting on Monday we are masking again at Lanier Law Group in order to protect our employees and clients.

Enjoy the last moments of summer with your families. Enjoy a peach as August is national peach month. Have a safe and happy end of summer.

How the DRIVE-Safe Act May Impact Trucking Safety
Trucking is a difficult job. Truckers drive long hours over great distances and often must rest in their truck’s cab. Surprisingly, however, there are few requirements to get a foot in the door of this dangerous industry.

A new bill introduced into Congress could make these requirements even more lenient. Learn about the DRIVE-Safe Act and how this legislation may affect trucking safety.

Who Can Be Held Liable for a
Truck Crash?
A truck crash is often devastating for everyone involved. However, there is no doubt that those outside the truck are the ones who suffer the most. According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), 4,119 people died in crashes involving large trucks, and of those deaths, 16% were truck occupants, 67% were passenger vehicle occupants and 15% were pedestrians, bicyclists, or motorcyclists.

Bacon Wrapped Grilled Pork Tenderloin
20 Minutes Start to Finish!
What You Need:

  • 1 16-18 ounce pork tenderloin (or 2 if you have a hungry crowd)
  • ½ pound Bacon (or one pound if you have a hungry crowd)
  • Salt/pepper
  • For the glaze (double for two tenderloins)
  • ½ cup ketchup
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • A dash of Worcestershire sauce
  • 1-ounce bourbon

What You Do:

  1. Pat the pork tenderloin dry, and season with salt and pepper.
  2. Wrap the pork tenderloin with bacon and secure it with toothpicks.
  3. Place the tenderloin on the grill. Grill over high heat for 5 minutes, then flip, grill for another 5 minutes.
  4. Meanwhile, combine the ingredients for the glaze in a small saucepan, and allow to simmer for 5 to 7 minutes.
  5. Apply the glaze and cook tenderloin for another 3 to 5 minutes on each side, continuously basting with the glaze.
  6. Test the temperature to be sure you have achieved 145 degrees. Don't worry if the middle is a little pink, that is best. It will be tender and delicious.
Totally Tasteless Lawyer Joke
This lawyer joke comes to us from Rodney, who follows Lanier Law Group on social media.

Why do lawyers not like to go to the beach?

Because cats keep trying to cover them with sand.
