President's Message
Eric J. Anderson, MAI

Hello Chapter Members,

First and foremost, I would like to wish health and wellness to all of you and your loved ones during these unconventional times. With business and school closures throughout the state, I know everyone’s lives and businesses have been significantly impacted.

With recent events, plans are being adjusted to accommodate the changing business environment. As we are all aware, the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic is changing our everyday life. The situation is still very fluid, creating questions about our industry. We, as Real Estate Appraisers, will be asked to provide an important role in these challenging economic times and provide guidance to our clients. The Appraisal Institute has taken an active role in providing guidance and advice. I suggest visiting the Appraisal Institute website for additional information, as it updated regularly here .

Going forward, we will need to form an opinion of how to safely work in the current environment. Ours is a unique profession, in that we are invited into people’s homes and businesses to conduct inspections and complete our assignments. This requires a significant measure of trust and I encourage all of our members to talk with their clients and contacts about how to minimize the risk to all the parties involved. While there is currently no established protocol, I encourage each of you to visit the Appraisal Foundation and the Nevada Real Estate Division websites for guidance on inspections and compliance.

In Nevada, our chapter will be complying with the Executive Orders of the Governor, restricting gatherings during the current outbreak. This includes board meetings, classes and social events until the executive order is lifted. Chapter board meetings will be held via teleconference and affected classes are postponed. This includes the March Business Practices and Ethics course ,

the planned luncheon meetings in April and the May USPAP Update course. We do intend to reschedule the chapter luncheons and the USPAP course. If there is interest, we may reschedule the Business Practices & Ethics course. We continue to look forward to both the Las Vegas Symposium and the Northern Nevada Overview , which are in the process of being scheduled.

As we emerge from the current situation, it is my desire to see our chapter leading the way in educational offerings and member participation. As the year started out, it was my goal to bring our chapter together, through chapter events and social gatherings. While these gatherings are currently restricted, it remains my goal to create opportunities to encourage and foster a more cohesive and stronger chapter-wide network in the future.

Again, I urge you to make smart choices during this time. Communicate with your clients, be understanding of their concerns, and above all, keep yourselves and families safe!

Best Wishes,
Eric J. Anderson, MAI
