We have found our new home at 83 Main Street in Bucksport, ME! We are currently sorting through things and setting up our storage but stay tuned for an open house when we're ready!

The Stockton Springs Community Library (SSCL) is run by an all volunteer staff and has become the center of the community of Stockton Springs and surrounding towns since it was founded in 2001. For a small library, SSCL host many events and programs for children and adults. They have two reading groups, a genealogy group, a gardening group, story hour for children. Weekly they have a painting group that consists of anywhere from 4 to 10 people. During tax time they also host the AARP Tax Program on Saturdays.

Senior Center Meals & Activities

Our meals here at the Center are prepared fresh daily. Our kitchen is supervised by local restaurateur Glenn Redman. The meals are available to local Seniors in Bucksport and the surrounding towns.
But, it is important to note that these delicious meals are also available to anyone in the community, regardless of age. The meals are also available for delivery at no extra charge. Many businesses in the area order and have the meals delivered. Everyone is welcome to come and join us for lunch here at the Center as well. We sit down to enjoy lunch ever Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 11:30 am. These delicious freshly prepared meals are available for the unbelievably low price of $6.00 dollars. The meals include an entree, sides and even a dessert. If you join us at the Center there is even coffee and cold drinks.

Huckleberries Card & Gift Raising Money for Bucksport Animal Shelter
|
Valentine's Day last year was very hard for Diane at Huckleberries Card & Gift. Her beautiful kitty, Sophie, lost her battle with kidney disease.
They had been together 18 years. In her memory, Diane is holding a fundraiser for the Bucksport Animal Shelter. Let's continue the Warm Your Heart spirit in Bucksport. Bring a 4"x6" photo (or more) of a beloved pet, either past or present to Huckleberries Card & Gift.
She will surround it with a beautiful red heart, along with your pet's name and display in the windows on Main St and Elm St. For each picture, she is asking that you donate just $2 to the shelter and she will match the first $100.
This fundraiser will end on March 31. Let's fill the windows with our furry companions that warm our hearts each and every day.

9th Annual Hancock County Food Drive in March
|
The Hancock County Food Security Network is excited to host the 9th Annual Hancock County Food Drive in March. The month-long collaborative fundraising project supports 17 food pantries, meal sites, and school backpack programs that collectively serve thousands of community members across Hancock County.
The 2019 Food Drive raised $26,833
and collected 7,250 food items, resulting in 113,374 meals for community members in need. This year the Network aims to raise $30,000.
According to Kids Count Data Center, 1 in 5 children in Hancock County is food insecure. By
supporting this important cause, you are helping to ensure that these children and their families
have access to affordable food.
There are a number of ways to support this year’s Food Drive:
Volunteer
o Help out at a Food Drive event in your community, such as the big Kick-Off
Event on March 7, 2020, or collect and sort food donations - a great activity for
students to get involved.
Donate
o 100% of your donation goes toward feeding people in need.
o Become an official sponsor of Hancock County Food Drive by donating $50 or
more, or by hosting a fundraising event.
o Make checks payable to United Way of Eastern Maine with “Hancock County
Food Drive” in the memo line. Mail to: Healthy Acadia, 140 State St, Ellsworth,
Maine 04605.
Participate
o Attend Food Drive events, engage via Facebook @hcfooddrive, and help spread
awareness about the issue of food insecurity.

Bar Harbor Bank & Trust Employees Donate More Than $9,000 to Local Non-Profits
|
Bar Harbor Bank & Trust recently presented donations totaling more than $9,000 to local non-profits from its employee-driven charitable giving program, Casual for a Cause. The program pools employee contributions collected each quarter and distributes them to non-profits selected by and voted on by the employees. The recipients of the Q4 2019 contributions are: Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bath/Brunswick; Emmaus Homeless Shelter; Upper Valley Habitat for Humanity; and Girls on the Run Vermont.
“These nonprofit organizations play a very important role in supporting those in need in our communities,” said Jack Frost, VP Director of Community Giving at Bar Harbor Bank & Trust. “Our employees are proud to support their efforts through our Casual for a Cause program.”

The IRS has launched
Identity Theft Central, designed to improve online access to information on identity theft and data security protection for businesses, individual taxpayers and tax pros.

- The Taxpayer Guide to Identity Theft, including what to do when a victim of identity theft.
- Identity theft Information for tax professionals, including knowing responsibilities under the law.
3. Work Opportunity Tax Credit extended to January 2021
The IRS recently announced that the
Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) has been extended to Jan. 1, 2021.The WOTC is a federal tax credit available to employers for hiring individuals from certain targeted groups who have consistently faced significant barriers to employment.

Happy New Year! We have some exciting
things coming up this year.
February is American Heart Month. We have good information on the back about how to keep your heart healthy. It’s also Children’s Dental Health Month. Starting children with dental care early is the best way for them to continue that habit into adulthood. This is an important component to being a healthy adult because some studies suggest that there is a connection between poor oral health and heart disease. Our dental program is happy to treat children so give us a call.
And speaking of being healthy, if you have not had your flu shot yet, there is still time for it to be effective. We are deep into flu season and numerous deaths have been reported across the country. Getting the flu vaccine is the best way to protect yourself and those around you. The flu is now considered widespread across Maine with all 16 counties reporting cases.

Held annually since 2012, Bridge the Gap has quickly gained popularity as one of Eastern Maine's rites of spring!
In 2017 Crow Athletics became the newest caretakers of this important community event, and changed the course slightly; both races continue to start at Fort Knox in Prospect, and cross the stunning Penobscot Narrows Bridge. The 10-Miler tours Verona Island from west to east, while the 3-Miler follows the scenic river walk. Both races finish on Main Street in the heart of downtown Bucksport!
Crow Athletics has partnered with Main Street Bucksport to help bring this race into their friendly community. We encourage all runners and their friends/family to explore the fun downtown businesses and restaurants — plan to make a day of it!

Bucksport/Fort Knox KOA Sewing Retreat Weekend
|
We are now taking reservations for our first ever sewing retreat weekend. You pay for your site we will supply most of the meals for your stay.
May 14th-17th .The retreat starts Thursday night with a meet and greet in the rec hall and sewing or whatever you feel like. Friday , Saturday and Sunday are all day sews.
Patty from the fabulous quilt shop Bolt in Bucksport will be at our retreat with great projects and materials for us to purchase and work on. This is a great time for you to bring your fun projects to share and show off. This retreat will hopefully be a bi-annual event and this first group will help plan and offer ideas for future events.
Bring your materials that you are not using and trade in with some of ours in our closet. Don’t forget your husbands we do have some great golf courses close by, corn hole and horseshoes on site.

House and Garden Tour on July 23, 2020. The upcoming tour will incorporate Maine’s Bicentennial into the walking tour throughout the village. The tour will include 9 homes, 5 gardens, and Castine’s Dyce’s Head Lighthouse and John Perkins House.
