Donate your old car to Senior Coastsiders
Although it isn't exactly new and upcoming, it does seem to be a secret to many! Did you know you can donate your old car (running or not) to Senior Coastsiders? The process is easy and fast through a partnership with Careasy. Simply go to the drop down menu on the DONATE tab on our website and scroll down to 'Car Donation.' One recent donor said, "I wish I had done this sooner! You hear of all these national charities -yet knowing the donation stays local and especially for Senior Coastsiders feels great!" You can go directly to the car donation site by clicking HERE.
Senior Coastsiders Community Labyrinth Installation Starting September 22nd, the public is invited to walk the Senior Coastsiders Community Labyrinth which will be drawn in chalk on the courtyard patio in the front of our building. A labyrinth, unlike a maze, has a single path winding toward the center. Walking a labyrinth can be a way to find a sense of clarity, peace and serenity. It can also lead to deeper relationships and a stronger sense of community. Some walkers identify the twists, turns, and center of the labyrinth with the twists, turns, and center of their own lives.

THANK YOU to the 29 individuals who have contributed $5,600 to date to ensure Rodger gets a new roof before the winter rains come. Rodger's roof is a much larger undertaking than the usual minor home repairs we carry out and is a special case, one-time scenario.
Just for Fun!

A Note from the Executive Director
In September the City of Half Moon Bay will be starting the process of applying for Age Friendly Community designation for our Coastside community. In an age-friendly community, the policies, services, and structures related to the physical and social environment are designed to support successful aging and make communities more livable for people of all ages. An age-friendly community may generate economic benefits, social capital, infrastructure innovations, and healthy communities. Other cities in the County that have already undergone this process include Daly City, Foster City, Redwood City, Colma, Pacifica, and San Mateo.

The World Health Organization (WHO) founded the Age-Friendly Network in 2005 and today there are over 1,000 cities worldwide. AARP coordinates the Age-Friendly Network in the United States as an affiliate of the WHO’s initiative. The AARP have developed a framework of Eight Domains of Livability that include outdoor spaces and buildings, transportation, housing, social participation, respect and social inclusion, civic participation and employment, communication and information, and community support/health services. This framework can be used by local leaders and residents to assess the needs of older adults. Once identified, these needs can be organized, prioritized, and incorporated into a clear action plan to make communities more livable for both older residents and people of all ages. This is an on-going process that in the first 5 years includes planning and piloting Age Friendly Community inaugural projects (years 1-2), creating an action plan focused on sustainability (year 2), implementation (years 3-5), and progress evaluation (end of year 5).

I look forward to hearing YOUR input regarding how our Coastside region can be a more Age Friendly community. Email, call or visit me in person to discuss your ideas. Our Coastside community Age Friendly plan will be submitted to AARP in October – so don’t delay!

Best wishes

Sandi
