District News
A lot has happened in the last few weeks, and these are challenging times for our WCS families and our community.

We can't be together in person right now, but our WCS Staff IS together in their commitment to help our WCS students and families during this crisis.
COVID-19 Resources
It’s critical that we all do our part to slow the spread of coronavirus to save lives and to avoid overwhelming our hospital systems. We want to share a few resources with you, as we all navigate this crisis together.*

Below is a message from the Clinton County EMA and a request for volunteers.

The response to the COVID-19 pandemic will be fought and won at the local level. We may find ourselves in a situation where our county will need an army of volunteers to step up and give a hand to the front line effort of our first responders and medical professionals.

Volunteers may be needed to fill a range of roles from making calls from home, helping at a food pantry distribution site, or tracking supplies being used and issued to first responders. Fact is, we don’t know what we’ll need help with yet, but we know we will need help at some point.

Request:  If you are a healthy adult and able to volunteer for your community, please fill out the volunteer form at the following link*. The point of contact for any questions dealing with the volunteer pool is Misty Dixon ( mdixon@clintonsheriff.com ).

School Closure FAQs
Parents and students have lots of questions right now. We’ve started a Frequently Asked Questions document to help.

We don’t have all the answers yet, but we will continue to add and update questions and answers as we receive information from the Governor, Health Department, and Ohio Department of Education.

The situation in Ohio, and across the country, changes daily and even hourly. Please continue to check the FAQs frequently. We'll add questions and answers as we know more.
Lunch Distribution
We are distributing lunch packs 2 times each week at 6 locations. Please check our website for all the details. We’re taking things a week at time, so check often in case we have to make adjustments to the plan.

wcs playgrounds are closed
Safety Announcement:
WCS Playgrounds
To help protect the safety and health of our students and community all school playgrounds are closed. It is important that people do not touch or use any playground equipment. This is also part of the Governor’s Orders and how we can help stop the spread of the coronavirus. No one should be on any school or park playground equipment.

We do encourage our students to get exercise and fresh air. Be sure to practice social distancing and avoid sharing toys and equipment. Thank you for your help in keeping us all safe and healthy.

Here are some suggestions from the Ohio Dept of Health’s COVID-19 website for alternative activities:

Mrs. Wood
A Loss in our 'Cane Community
It is with a heavy heart that we let you know that on March 31st our beloved friend, teacher, and co-worker, Mrs. Kris Wood, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes. There is no indication that Mrs. Wood’s death was related to COVID-19.

Kris had worked in the Wilmington City School district since 2013 as a highly respected primary educator and was currently a 1st grade teacher at Holmes Elementary. We hope you’ll take a few moments to read our Holmes facebook post to see how our staff, students, and families paid tribute to Kris in a wonderful way.

Kris' family has a special message to share regarding their plans for honoring Kris

Our thoughts continue to be with her husband Ian who has lovingly served our students as our crossing guard and trusted volunteer.

Stay Connected
Stay Connected
While we may need to keep a healthy physical distance from others and avoid groups/gatherings, it’s important to maintain social connections through social media, phone calls, emails, video chats, letters, and more.

Your WCS teachers are working hard to stay connected to their students and families. Through email, google hangouts, and even phone calls - we’re all doing our best to help students and families feel connected.
