AZ Policy Update
by: Peters, Cannata & Moody plc

Today Governor Ducey called on Arizonans to show understanding for those who face the start of a new month and bills they may not be able to pay. “It’s basic decency,”  he stated .

He also issued an executive order that will  allow veterinarians to use telemedicine  to examine pets and livestock in Arizona during the state’s “ stay home ” directive. The Arizona Attorney General determined that law enforcement  can enforce  that stay-at-home order. (Here’s another reason to stay home: The federal government closed the  Grand Canyon .)

The Governor hopes the federal government will do more to help, as well. Today he asked D.C. officials to declare a  Major Disaster Declaration  – a step that would bring additional resources for Arizona’s COVID-19 response – and called for renewed international exportation of  Arizona’s dairy products  to Mexico to assist the state’s dairy farmers.

CMS is empowered to take proactive steps through 1135 waivers as well as, where applicable, authority granted under section 1812(f) of the Social Security Act (the Act) and rapidly expand the Administration’s aggressive efforts against COVID-19. As a result, the following blanket waivers are in effect, with a retroactive effective date of March 1, 2020 through the end of the emergency declaration. For general information about waivers, see Attachment A to
this document. These waivers DO NOT require a request to be sent to the 1135waiver@cms.hhs.gov mailbox or that notification be made to any of CMS’s regional offices.
