PARISH e-BULLETIN & UPDATES - June 21, 2020
Twelfth Sunday in Ordinary Time - June 21, 2020
LIVE THE LITURGY : Inspiration for the week

Jesus knows that the challenges a disciple of the Gospel will face in the world are real. He tells all of us point blank, “Do not be afraid.” There are many things we can fear as we attempt to live the Gospel: unpopularity, being rebuked, rejection, anger, being challenged, having to defend ourselves, standing alone, insecurity, failure, and even death. Many folks know that their faith calls them to live life more deliberately and radically but are cowards when it comes to putting it into practice. We easily justify sticking with the “acceptable” norms with which we are accustomed. These only serve to keep us stuck and mired in mediocrity. The Gospel — given flesh by the very presence of Christ — seeks to stretch, challenge, and change us. We do not have to fear anything, even death. Sometimes, living with our fears brings us a sadly disordered sense of comfort. Maybe what we really fear above all else is change.

FATHER'S DAY BLESSING
to all our fathers and our priests

God our Father,
we give you thanks and praise for
fathers young and old.

We pray for young fathers,
newly embracing their vocation;
may they find courage and perseverance
to balance work, family
and faith in joy and sacrifice.

We pray for fathers whose children
are lost or suffering;
may they know that the God of compassion
walks with them in their sorrow.

We pray for men who are not fathers
but still mentor and guide us with
fatherly love and advice.

We remember fathers, grandfathers,
and great grandfathers who
are no longer with us
but who live forever in our memory
and nourish us with their love.
Amen.
ORACION PARA LOS PADRES EN SU DIA
a todos nuestros padres y sacerdotes

Dios padre nuestro,
Te alabamos y te damos gracias
por los padres jóvenes y viejos.

Oramos por los padres jóvenes,
que son nuevos en esta vocación;
que encuentren coraje y perseverancia
para equilibrar el trabajo, la familia y la fe en la alegría y el sacrificio.

Oramos, por los padres cuyos hijos
están perdidos o sufriendo;

Video recording   of  Bishop Oscar Cantú and Fr. James Okafor, joined by representatives from the Catholics of African Descent of the Diocese of San Jose and the Office of Social Justice as they continue to pray the Stations of the Cross for Racial Justice and Peace at Our Lady of Peace Shrine.

Bishop Cantú calls each of us to open our hearts and seek a real understanding of this evil in the world. He said, “I ask the community to read the pastoral letter Open Wide Our Hearts: The Enduring Call to Love . He also invites the community to unite spiritually with him at noon every day during June to kneel for nine minutes in prayer. In all the complexity of this issue, he offered us a very simple and loving way to start to take action.

FAMILY LIFE RESOURCES
Many parents often wonder what to teach their children about their bodies, but don’t know how and when it is appropriate.  The Diocese of San José fosters healthy relationships through awareness and interpersonal safety education for our children via the VIRTUS Catholic Safe Environment Curriculum, as well as safety training and background screening for all adults who minister or provide services to our children. We encourage parents to explore additional resources to help empower themselves and their children through open and honest family communications. The Center for Innovation and Resources is hosting a free parent-training with Monica Borunda, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, adjunct faculty at CSU Los Angeles, and a Child Forensic Interview Specialist and Trainer. The training will focus on easing parental comfort with the topic and provide guidance on some of the ways parents can help educate their children about their bodies, boundaries, and how to keep them safe from child sexual abuse.

State Fund to Help Parents Buy Food for Children:
Registration ends June 30, 2020

Evidence based research highlights that helping to reduce parental stress helps to reduce stress in children, which further alleviates potential triggers that may otherwise result in childhood trauma. During the Shelter-At-Home mandate, it is important to recognize that school closures forced some families to face additional challenges feeding their children. Lack of access to nutritional resources only exasperates parent stress and the potential for increased childhood trauma. Through a special EBT benefits program, parents may be able to qualify for additional help when it comes to feeding their children during the Coronavirus pandemic. Through this service, families may receive funding to support children’s nutritional needs, which in turn supports a child’s emotional well-being. Any student that qualified for free or reduced-price meals at school can receive these P-EBT benefits.
